So, is it really possible to profit on this after purchasing all of the necessary equipment and supplies?

    Equipment and supplies, yes. However if you are trying to buy the raw material(old ram, video cards, etc) you make less than minimum wage even if you are great at it. Its more geared for people who collect it for free from hobbies/work/friends etc.
