Yes, you read it right!
Nokia, the once-dominant mobile phone maker, has once again returned to the smartphone arena to challenge the market leadership of Apple and Samsung; however, its new Android entry will no longer be manufactured by Nokia as it has just licensed its brand to Finland-based company HMD Global.
Another surprising revelation is that the first Nokia-branded Android smartphone, the Nokia 6, will be exclusively available in China in partnership with internet retail king JD.com. The Nokia 6 phone signals Nokia's comeback to the smartphone market after being adopted by Microsoft in its Windows Phone series models when it bought out Nokia's mobile devices division in 2014 and after having failed to compete with and take a bigger share of the pie away from the market leaders.
Here are some of its specifications and features:
- Software: Android 7.0 Nougat
- Display: 5.5" full-HD display, Gorilla Glass
- Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC + 4 GB RAM
- Memory: 64 GB internal storage
- Battery: 3000 mAh (non-removable)
- Sound: Dolby Atmos tech, with dual ampliers
- Home button with fingerprint scanner
- 16-MP rear camera, face detection, auto focus, dual-tone flash
- 8-MP front-facing camera
- Price: ~$245
Well, yay! My first cell was a Nokia way back when the entire back of the phone was the battery. It was a tough phone and I loved it but for the battery popping off everytime I dropped it. Lol. Also, Nokia inspired one of my favorite memes:
