ANDROID VERSION NAMING CONVENTION
Google’s Android has a great sense of humor in naming their versions of Android. They try to make their each new version name interesting because a catchy name will attract more visitors to their product. Therefore, they use deserts or sweets names as their version code names. It is same like as Intel use River names as their CPUs code names. This sounds interesting… the history of Google’s Android is also interesting.

HISTORY OF ANDROID
The history of android and android versions naming convention is very interesting. Let’s have a look on the history of android.
In July 2005. Google has bought a company named “Android”. After the purcahse of Android, it is said that they gone undercover and was working on mobile phone which wil have amazing feature that will stun the world. This rumer spreadout like a fire because before the purchase Android was headed by the Ex-head of Big phone maker company. Therefore people thinks that Android will come back and will revolutionize the mobile phone industry.
Now lets get ahead this story a bit more intresting.
Fnally, Google broke the silence in November 2007, when Google announced that they are working on a mobile phone as well as working on a new mobile phone operating system which is based on Linux kernal, named as “Android”.
HTC was the first mobile phone company to get this new operating system installed in their mobile phones.
After this announcement Google has set up a great line of versions of Android OS. From HTC’s mobile phone to the today’s modern age mobile phone Android has travelled, grown and became one of the most used mobile phone operating system.

VERSIONS OF ANDROID OS
From the birth to today, Android has launched many versions. Each version comes with many new features but also has some flaws. Google used the name deserts name alphabetically for naming the Android versions.

1- Android 1.0 & 1.1 (unamed)
2- Android 1.5: Cupcake
3- Android 1.6: Donut
4- Android 2.0 & 2.1: Éclair
5- Android 2.2: Froyo
6- Android 2.3 & 2.4: Gingerbread
7- Android 3.0,3.1 & 3.2: Honycomb
8- Android 4.0: Ice cream Sandwich
9- Android 4.1: Jellybean
10- Android 4.4: Kitkat
11- Android 5.X: Lollipop
12- Android 6.X: Marshmallow
13- Android 7.X: Nougat
14- Android 8.0: Oreo

This is the amazing list of Google’s Android version names. Google start the Android version naming convention Android 1.5 because 1.0 & 1.1 are not stable versions of Android/ Therefore, Google excluded them from the naming convention system. Now the most latest Android Version is Oreo.
