LiFi is a newly discovered WiFi technology that uses light to transmit a wireless internet signal.

I've been reading a bit about it lately and I thought it would be cool to write a post about!

How it would work:

To use Li-Fi in your home you would simply buy a special LED light bulb that serves as a LiFi access point and when powered on that light bulb will transmit an internet signal (just as harmless as a wifi signal) that will allow your internet devices to connect.

But wait...

Doesn't that mean you will have to leave the lights on all day??
Yes, but what most people don't think about is that you could have a dimmer on such a light bulb that would allow you to dim the light so low that your eye won't pick up on any light, but it will still be on and it would still be transmitting a signal.

There is one little problem though...

LiFi isn't able to travel through walls like our present day WiFi can, but how many rooms in your house can you think of that doesn't have at least 1 source of light in it?

Hopefully they will be able to manufacture such a bulb at a low enough cost to be around the same price or even cheaper than an original LED bulb. If they can do that then there would be no problem installing bulbs in every room of the house.

Oh one more thing!

LiFi is capable of speeds up to 224 Gigabits/Second!!!
