Motorola has finally launched the Moto X4 in India - the fourth generation of the company's beloved X series of smartphones - for a starting price of Rs 20,999. Unlike X series smartphones of old which were high-end devices, the Moto X4 is a mid-range smartphone that comes with a metal and glass design, a dual camera setup at the back, some nifty Bluetooth tricks, a near stock build of Android and more.
Set to originally launch in India on Oct 3, Motorola mysteriously cancelled the launch event disappointing many fans in the process. More than a month later, the Moto X4 has finally made it to Indian shores. The smartphone is set to go on sale in India from 11:59PM tonight exclusively via Flipkart. It will also be available via Motorola's MotoHub retail stores.
It will be available in two variants - one with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage for Rs 20,999 and one with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage for Rs 22,999. Motorola and Flipkart have a few launch offers lined up - customers can avail an additional Rs 2,500 off on exchange, up to Rs 3,000 off on exchange on select Motorola smartphones, 10% instant discount on HDFC credit and debit cards and up to 340GB of 4G data on Airtel.
The Moto X4 has eschewed the plastic and rubber construction of its predecessors for a metal and glass design. There is glass on the front and back sandwiched between a metal frame which not only makes the smartphone more rigid but adds to the premium factor. Unlike previous X series smartphones, the Moto X4 is not available in any exotic finishes like wood or leather.
The Moto X4 is powered by the octa-core Snapdragon 630 processor paired with 3/4GB of RAM, the Adreno 508 GPU and a 3,000mAh battery with TurboCharge support. Additionally, it comes with a 5.2-inch Full HD display with Gorilla Glass 3 on top and 32/64GB of internal storage which can be expanded via a microSD card (of up to 2TB).
Just like the rest of Motorola's Android smartphone line-up, the Moto X4 runs on a near stock build of Android 7.1.1 Nougat with a few nifty additions like a blue light filter and gestures such as karate chop to turn on the camera. On the imaging front, the smartphone comes with a dual camera setup at the back. There is a primary 12MP sensor alongside a secondary 8MP 120 degree ultra wide-angle sensor. On the front, there is a 16MP sensor with an LED flash for selfies.
The Moto X4 is one of the rare mid-range smartphones to come with IP68 dust and water resistance - which means you can dunk it in up to 1.5 metres of water for up to 30 minutes with no worries. It can also can stream music wirelessly to up to 4 Bluetooth headphones or speakers at the same time.
