9 Reasons Why Every Student Needs an Apple Watch

in technology •  7 years ago

I got my first Apple Watch a few weeks ago and found myself using it every single day. It has become an important part of my daily lifestyle and has dramatically changed my daily life. Today a wrote down just a few of its very useful features. I used to think Apple Watch is the right choice for business people only and I believe that’s what most people think. But the more research I did the more useful it sounded for a student so I found myself buying it a few days later and now a few weeks in I can say I don’t regret this decision what so ever.

1. Customizability

The best thing about Apple Watch is that it’s very customizable. Meaning you can design it however you like. That’s why I believe Apple Watch is prefect for anyone. You can very easily change the band or apple watch face. There are also many very useful apps you can download from Watch app on your iPhone. Apple Watch is always with you therefor it knows the way you live and it adjusts to you.

2. Notifications

How many times were you sitting in the class wishing you could go on your phone and read through all the notifications so the time would go by faster but at the same time still wanna listen to the teacher in class because you know that will be on the test? Yeah, I know the struggle. Apple Watch allows you to get all of the notifications right away. However if you don’t want to receive notifications you can simple turn them off by tapping on Do Not Disturb. One thing I was blown about when I was got it is that Apple Watch mirrors your iPhone. Meaning you only receive notifications on your Apple Watch when wearing it. For example: lets say you just got a mail. You will only receive notification on your Apple Watch - your iPhone won’t light up, vibrate or make any sounds. This is probably one of my favourite features. I for example find it to be very useful when I’m for example laying in my bed and have my phone on the other side of the room. Before I had my Apple Watch I would stand up just to go to the phone and then realise it was just a game. But now I can just raise my wrist and put it back down without standing and using my phone. Believe me, this feature is very useful.

3. Activity

It’s very important to stay active. But sometimes you simply just forget. Apple Watch is there for you to constantly remind you to stay active. It goes with you through the day and tracks your activity on every step. There’s a special app for that called no other than Activity. Your goal is to burn 300 calories (you of course can change that according to how active you would like to be), to move for at least 30 minutes, and to stand for at least 1 minute in every hour (12 hours) every day. Every hour it reminds you to stand up and move around for a minute. Every time you do this, you are a step closer to closing you ring. Exercise doesn’t necessary mean some hard core gym work. You can simply just go on a walk – meaning everything where you move counts as exercise.
Don’t lie you know you’ve been sitting for hours straight and apple watch will for sure fix this. It’s also very satisfying when you see a closed ring at the end of your day.

4. Reminders

I always found myself being that annoying person that always asks how many minutes till the class is over. Now that’s not the case anymore thanks to no other than the Apple Watch. I put my schedule in the Calendar app on my iPhone and set it to remind me 5 minutes till the class is over. I also log all my exams in and set it to remind me 5 days before it. Therefor I never forget about it. It’s also very useful for reminding yourself to do your homework or anything other you wanna get done.

5. Schedule

I already mentioned it before but as I said I put my schedule into Calendar app on my iPhone. This way I can easily just raise my wrist and see it right on my Apple Watch face (if I set it to have calendar on my watch face). This way I don’t have to be pulling my phone all the time and it’s much faster. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve failed the classroom before because I had no idea what I have next. Thanks to apple watch this doesn’t happen anymore.

6. Weather

How many times have you dressed like a polar bear and then came out realizing it’s burning hot outside but already ran out of time to go back and change your outfit and then spend the whole day feeling like you are in sauna? With Apple Watch you can very quickly check the weather just by raising your wrist. I know you are right now saying you could do this with your iPhone as well. And yeah it’s true but it would take much longer. And believe me, when you are in rush every second counts. It’s also very useful to see what the weather conditions are before going out so you are ready.

7. Music

This is the one I didn’t really think would use much but I find myself using it several times a day. As said before Apple Watch mirrors your iPhone meaning it automatically shows the music you are playing on your iPhone on your Apple Watch. I find it to be very useful when I’m on a bus and have my phone in a pocket. It gets very annoying pulling it out for every song. With Apple Watch I simply just raise my wrist and jump into the next song. It’s also great if you are listening to music at home. You can very quickly switch songs, adjust the volume and even more.

8. Breathe app

Again, something I didn’t think I would use much has become a part of my daily routine. It allows you to take a minute of your day and really pay attention to your breathing. There’s an amazing animation with vibrations that are just saying very satisfying. It’s extremely useful during the exam season because sometimes you study for hours straight and don’t remember anything you study anymore so taking a minute to breathe is a nice break to return refreshed to studying. It has also been scientifically shown that taking a minute out of your day and dedicating it to paying attention to your breathing can improve overall health.

9. Maps

An extremely useful app very similar to the one on iPhone. It gives you signals so you know when you have to turn and the vibrations are designed for you to know whether you should turn right or left. I find it to be the most useful when I’m in a busy city. I don’t have to be constantly holding my phone and looking at it. I simply just follow the signals on my Apple Watch.

So here are just a few of the features I pointed out today but there’s way more that I didn’t include. I hope you got a little overview of what you can use Apple Watch for and I hope you decide to get one as well because it’s awesome!
