Hi guys,
Is web development an industry you would want to get into in 2017? Well, the answer entirely depends on what you want to do. If you want to go and find a job as a web developer then there should be plenty of jobs out there which offer a decent amount of money for your work. However, if you want to start your own business or do freelance web development it may be very hard for you due to the amount of competition and services offered out there.
Now, if someone ones to build a website then they would either do most likely one of two things:
- Go to an experienced web development company and get their website made professionally
OR - Use things like Wix and Weebly and make the website themselves.
Although it would be hard to do freelance web development/start your own company, it is still possible. But you would just have to be really good at what you do.
I'm attempting to start a web business (Evanston Avenue), and have asked myself the exact same question.
I think the key is to find a niche. In particular, I think a one person shop could do a lot of damage being in expert in something like AWS or DevOps.
The traditional agency model is becoming tougher and tougher due to better tools like Squarespace, etc.

Exactly. Tools like Squarespace are making it tougher for traditional web development businesses.
