This Is The World's First Solar Powered Car

Introducing the Sono Sion, which is set to be the world's first solar-powered car. To be fully clear, it isn't entirely solar powered. It can still be charged. But it takes a very serious stab at being solar-powered.

Before we address any of the features of the vehicle, we should address the price: just $23,000 before any applicable subsidies. That's surprisingly very affordable. And for that price, you'll get a very reasonable 250 kilometers of range. 330 solar cells dot the exterior of the car, which can add as much as 30 kilometers of range per day under good conditions.

Deliveries are expected to begin in 2019. All of this comes from what started as a crowd-funding campaign, which not only provided seed funding for the company, but 1,100 pre-orders as well. After increasing amounts of publicity, it's likely this number has since increased.

Sono plans on prioritizing deliveries in it's native Germany first, and then working out from there. Let's hope Sono is able to come up with the fund to actually bring this car to production.
