BS marketing, what a concept

Just taking a quick break from Amazon stuff to talk about salt lamps. They are becoming pretty popular so I decided to do some digging to see what they actually do. If course what they are advertised for.

Negative Ions

They say that it binds to positive ions and negatively charges the room. Negative ions are known to have health benefits, and so commercial ionizers are incredibly easy to get. Incidentally, normal ionizers are astronomically better at it. This does not draw in air to atomize, it just charges whatever comes in contact.

Air Filtration

They say that these attract dust and kill microbes with the negative ions. You need a much greater charge than that which can be supplied by one of these. So this is another case of the claim being true, but the claim does not apply to the product as one may be lead to believe.

Gentle Glow

Yep they are right on this one.

Conclusion

Buy an Ozone machine if you want negative ions, buy a plant for air cleaning, and leave the light up salt lick for the local deer. Of course you should buy one if you want, but do not expect any of the scientific claims to hold water.

But they do look kinda romantic, don't they ? :-D

I did find my aura was getting a little purple and these lamps not only managed to cleanse it back to it's natural green, but they also eliminated the bad vibes i'd been carrying around, and reset my vibrational frequency to resonate with that of the multiverse...

....just kidding... i just like em because they look cool!

Ugh! Why do people believe in this nonsense?

Magnetic bracelets, the power of copper, homeopathy, acupuncture, ...

I'm starting a new business: Polonium-210 necklaces. They glow a pretty blue. Guaranteed to even out your heartbeat, along with everyone else around you!

Your guess is as good as mine but I think it comes down to the easy way out. People like to buy a solution off the shelf.

I so much desired to have one in my living room because of the usefulness to remove dust, pollen, cigarette smoke and other contanimant from the air through the help of hygroscopy

Lol I love these things! Picked up half a dozen for $5 from an out-of-business holistic health store. They look good. But that's where it ends for me :P

I wondered about these things. Many of my friends have them and it never really made much sense to me. Thanks for doing the research!

Im in it for the glow, dont care about negative energys

es bastante sincera la apreciación de las lamparas, de alguna manera es una moda. como las brazaletes eléctricos que vendían a principios de siglo para que la gente aceptara la electricidad
