End of Days - Black Hole Farming - Future Power Generation

So I've been on a bit of a future bender lately, and I figured it would be interesting to take on possible ways to extend our civilizations capacity to survive after the universe has gone dark. As in when every sun has burnt out and all that is left is black holes small and large.

There are a few different ways to get this done, and one that springs to my mind is to feed in matter from another source which will generate photons as the matter is swirled around the accretion disk of the black hole and consumed by the singularity.

Basically as the matter swirls and crushes together on it's way into the black hole, it rubs together and is broken apart creating huge amounts of friction and heat.

Given that there is not many places for this heat to go, radiating heat in space is rather difficult as there is not much to transfer it along, the atoms in the accretion disk will get rather warm, lighting up and sending off photons you can capture.

This would work rather well I imagine in the distant dark future as not only a light source but as an energy source as well. Assuming that we have perfected solar panels, and I would think that quite a bit of power would be generated in terms of matter to energy conversion.

Another idea that comes to mind is that black holes have powerful electromagnetic fields around them, and not surprisingly like most things in our universe, they rotate quite quickly.

I imagine that given some kind of super-material it might be possible to encase a black hole in a cage of some kind, capturing this rotating electromagnetic field much like a stator (capturing structure) and rotor (black hole) in a typical generator.

Given the astronomical mass of the black holes, this rotational energy would be very long lived and a very good power source, and also in some ways renewable, as you could press matter together using lasers or some kind of thruster in order to create new black holes if the previous ones evaporate.

Yet another source could potentially be the relativistic jets that are emitted along the poles of the black holes, these jets travel at large percentages of the speed of light and are highly energetic, containing ionized matter.

You could quite easily tap these matter jets for the ions contained, or even use the jet as a direct drive for some kind of super galactic turbine.

These jets of ionized matter stretch for thousands to millions of parsecs so the energy contained within them is outright mind boggling, and would keep the lights on for a very very long time.

There may be other ways to capture the energy of black holes and if you can think of any that I may have missed, I would love to hear about them in the comments below.

Thanks for your attention dearest readers. I hope you have a wonderful day, much love. <3

I didn't know you were Captain Spock!

Peace through power!!, oh wait wrong franchise.

crazy cool concept

thanks!!

The astronomical mass of a black hole is completely undefined. Its no way out to assume its mass. One of the factor is its extremely huge gravitational/magnetic pull. Any matter (even light) cant escape this freakin object. Lol

But, its a very interesting topic. It made me think outside the box. Im basing on your statements though I have a basic knowledge about black holes. Thanks @sammosk Buddy ! :) Resteeming this awesome article.

Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the support and thanks for sharing. <3

we can probably just spawn new stars

Stars convert lighter elements into heavier ones, eventually you run out of star food.

right, but atoms are just energy and we are not limited to chemistry in trying to create them. In the amount of time it will take for the universe to go dark it would be sad to have not yet figured out how to create the elements in massive quantities, and because the atoms are all composed of the same pieces we can also convert them by playing with electrons neutrons protons while probably also gaining energy from the conversion, there's really nothing stopping us from spawning new stars except our scale of civilization and limited knowledge of science, and I think both of those things are accelerating. If anything, we can just ask AI how to do it in 15 years.

Into the singularity with you! <3

lol :D

That's...a hell of a lot further in the future than I've ever though to go XD Now while you're sorting out important things like energy sources I'm pondering evolution trends (both biological and technological) human descendants would go on while somehow surviving to the point where the universe goes dark.

Pretty exciting stuff!! I just love pushing my mind as far into the future as I can think to go. Now I wonder what to do when the universe starts dissolving, maybe we can figure out a way to reflect or pull it all back together?

ponders

Well if it crunches and then bangs again maybe we'll find a way to slip into the gap to get into the new one and become "gods" 😄

You sir are a genius! O.O

Can you imagine a bioluminescent human? That would be rather freaky IMO xD

A friend on deviantART made some:

biolumiscent human mutant
image takes you to big version with description

She hasn't updated for a while :<

That's almost avatar-esk xD

I wish I had some input for your post but alas, it is way ahead of me. I'm glad there are people like you in this world, natural problem solvers, people that can think outside of the box. Your posts are thought provoking and well put together. Keep on Steemin' x

You are too kind, I am not worthy of such praise. <3

I appreciate your brain and I'm happy to know you :-)

I am grateful for your kind words and support Isaria, you are golden, and we are all better off for the knowing of you. <3

That would be one mighty 'cage'. It would need a bit of steel I think!

In seriousness, the amount of energy bouncing around in space is unfathomable. If we could harness at least 1% of it and transfer it back to earth, our energy woes would be gone.

I always enjoy reading your futuristic views and opinions.

Thank you sir, I enjoy writing them as well and glad you are enjoying.

Yeah the materials required would have to be rather strong, but given just how far into the future this would be we might have access to super-materials strong enough? who knows! <3

its a continuous process.. once the current stars r gone, the new ones wud b there... there r millions of starts that r being added to the universe.. a star dies, a new one is born.. nebula are giving births to stars and the cycle continues.

Stars convert lighter elements into heavier ones, eventually it is possible we run out of fuel and everything goes dark. Thanks for sharing. <3

This is an awesome post @sammosk! I get to learn a little more about your talents every day. :c)

Of the three methods that you mention I suggest that the most promising would be the 'cage' Through harnessing and manipulating the electromagnetism of a blackhole it would be plausible to ensure a degree of centering that counteracts the intense gravitational pull. One would have to see whether the magnetic field far exceeds the gravitational forces at play.

Cool article. ^_^

Thanks for the kind words and support. What would be really interesting is putting two black holes into orbit around each other. Much love <3

That would take an unfathomable amount of energy but I do believe that it would be possible. A very interesting possibility. :c)

I also wonder if having black holes collide would inspire a big bang like event upon a smaller scale.

Happens all the time, they just kinda merge and become a bigger black hole.

One thing that would be possible I guess is taking the heavier elements and hitting them up with some kinda fission, but iirc only certain ones like to do this.

So maybe use fusion to combine up to that level, then break em down again?

Pretty sure I'm some kind of mad scientist. hahahaha. Thanks for sharing, much love. <3

Mad science is alright for as long as no civilizations or creatures are harmed ;c)

Why not send multiple black holes into orbit around a single sacrificial one? I wonder if it would be possible to rip the matter out of a black hole on account of all that overlapping gravity. :cP

Looks like we're both a little mad. ;c)

Nah once it's past the event horizon it's a done deal. I imagine something like orbiting a pulsar and black hole around one another and taking advantage of the electromagnetic stream. Just align the pulsars pole with the black hole, or stretch the thing into a bell like shape (somehow) so the heavy end is pulled towards the hole always, rotate them somewhere in the realm of light speed (so the attraction is counteracted by the rotational speed) and go nuts.

How to implement this? silently screams

Since one of the variables involved in determining the event horizon is gravity, it is my perhaps mistaken expectation that the interaction of two event horizons upon each other would impact the location of each.

Since the event horizon is that point where nothing, not even light can escape, and since this can be visualized as a circle or sphere, the interaction would have that event horizon grow ever smaller as the conflicting gravity forces draw upon each other. This , in turn, would cause matter and energy to spew forth at great velocity until the event horizon stabilizes once again - the merging of the two.

Well that is what I think might happen.

Your subsequent idea sounds more interesting. How to implement this? Lets just say that the tractor forces involved would be beyond epic. ;c)

I (think) they just kinda merge together, like two drops of oil in water, and yes the last thought would indeed be epic, the problem would be tethering something in between that could handle the insane blast of beyond energetic particles, and the tidal forces. hahaha.

Sounds improbable, but not impossible.

I've got a Black Hole you can Mine!

Har har har! <3

JOKING ! Okay.. Don't get any Ideas.. I'm a happily Married Man.

its the different black hole we r talking about.. not every hole that is black is a black hole :D

Maybe mini black holes can generate mad power and be controllable.
CERN looking at you, infinite power for humans.
Do it.

They evaporate VERY fast tho. So this might be an issue. But its v. excite!!!

POWER UP THE LHC!!

Tesla had it...they took it all away and buried it with him...those bastards!

I don't know much about black holes and cannot speak even marginally intelligently on the world absent our beautiful sun. I hope that forward reaching minds like yours can execute a way to keep us running and generate both heat and light. Those left behind will need to be united in this singular purpose and I can only hope forward reaching minds like yourself are at the helm because knowing what I do about you I believe in the possibility of your scope of speculative thought. I enjoyed your well thought out concept and of course I am resteeming ❤

You are amazing and I heart you. <3

Thank you @sammosk you already found room in this rose's ❤

Nice post

Thank you <3

Interesting thoughts sir. Due to the shear size, gravitational force and energy emission of such objects I find the 'cage' idea highly unlikely, close to impossible even.

Although, if we can manage to make a cage of such a rediculous size and have some form of super power anti-gravity field in our technology arsenal, then maybe ;)

I would say your idea of feeding off the energy produced by Hawking Radiation is likely the only possible solution to getting energy safely extracted and useable from a black hole and the most likely choice.

Personally, I highly doubt humans will get anywhere close to such a time in our universes existence. However, if they do manage to live that long then I think they are more likely to feed off the energy of neutron stars and once they all die out that will likely be the last of their days.

That of course is just my opinion :)

Thank you for sharing. And yes, highly doubtful we will make it that far.

interesting stuff...feeding off of dead galaxies. We will have become more than the destroyer of worlds...we will become the paramount parasites of the universe.

Go Steem team!
