I know there are a lot of folks reading this who will say that they had already known this for ages now, but I think I have begun to realise too that Samsung might be taking over Apple's mantle.
Apple and Samsung are two of the largest tech companies and everything that they do, has some or the other influence on the whole industry. In a way, they dictate major trends which go mainstream and are adopted by users like you and me.
For too long, I personally believe, that Apple has been the trendsetter. Even if they are not necessarily the ones inventing a particular technology or consumer device, they sure know how to perfect it and make it popular or mainstream overnight.
Steve Jobs, the late co-founder and CEO and the visionary that made 'Apple' possible had a big role to play in that and since his departure, Apple sure has evolved. Over the past few years, consumers have started to get a little bored by their offerings, even though they still make great products!
A Change On The Way?
I have never been fond of Samsung products, especially their smartphones. I absolutely hated their design style up until a few years ago. But over the last few years, they have radically stepped up their game in all areas including design, innovation, software and hardware quality and so on.
And they are doing it at a really impressive pace. And that's why I think they are taking over Apple's crown (or already have, according to many). Consumers love to be wowed and this is one area Apple was particularly great at. Now, not so much.
Over the last few years, Apple has gone from releasing revolutionary products to evolutionary products. Each year, they make things a little bit more powerful, polish the design here and there, and of course, charge you a lot more than before. The "wow" factor is now gone.
Samsung is quickly becoming the new 'hip' company delivering eye-widening technology. They recently gave a sneak peak of a foldable phone they might launch soon and the upcoming Galaxy S10 will have an entirely full frontal display. Apple on the other hand will stick to its notch for at least a year more.

Also, if rumours are correct, Samsung might also be entering the crypto industry which would put it ways ahead of Apple! It is the fast actions and innovations by Samsung that consumers seem to love, which is in contrast to the delayed innovation at Apple.
Don't get me wrong. Apple still makes really high quality products with great hardware and software. I personally would prefer iOS and macOS over other operating systems thanks to their simplicity.
It's just that now, under Tim Cook, progress seems to have stalled and their focus seems to have changed to only make more and more money and keep the shareholders happy. Many of its customers feel this way.
Once upon a time, consumers came first for Apple, and now it's all about saving money here and there by resorting to cheap strategies or making more by charging exorbitant amount. Time will tell if Apple can bounce back or if Samsung becomes the new love for consumers.
I recently changed to OnePlus which makes amazing phones :D
I have had Samsung for years, but decided to try something else this tine around :D

Well. Apple is useless with the limit features and their limitations on their phones.
Samsung is good, but I think they changed their design too much and the curved screen is just annoying in the long run (I had the Samsung G7 Curved).
Samsung do have features which Oneplus doesn't have, but oneplus have something equal to that, so I like OnePlus more now, you just have to get used to it. Plus OnePlus is way cheaper and is more powerful xD

Huawei is also a good alternative for both of them.

Agreed. It's probably one of the most underrated phone. Apple and Samsung is too mainstream because it releases phones so fast
