Is Apple Going To Combine The iPhone, iPad and MacBook?

If you feel like the last few years have been sort of underwhelming, in terms of consumer electronics, then you are not alone. No matter what the different tech companies offered, everything just seemed like "meh".

I guess we as consumers have come to expect revolutionary updates every year to phones, computers, tablets, smart watches and the likes and when we just get incremental updates, it can surely feel like a let down. At least from a perspective of a tech enthusiast like me.

I personally, have been hugely disappointed with Apple, who used to be the trend leader once and now it seems to just play catch up. Look at all the innovation Samsung is doing with its latest Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Fold smartphones.

Anyways, Apple might be cooking huge things behind the scenes. There are already reports that Apple is working on an electric car and an AR smart glass. But could Apple be working towards combining and integrating its most popular products for the next decade of computing?

The Apple Experience

The iPhone is undoubtedly Apple's most popular product, powered by iOS on the software side and its A-series chips on the hardware side. Both these pieces of software and hardware are made/designed by Apple. The iPad is the second popular product that runs on the same pieces.

Then there are the MacBooks, powered by macOS on the software side and Intel microprocessors on the hardware side. Apple owns and makes macOS but Intel is the one making the chips.

For the longest time, it has been rumoured that Apple aims to combine all of the products into a single device to rule them all. And it seems that Apple has already started the process.

At last year's WWDC, Apple announced that it will allow developers to port iOS apps to macOS in 2019. There are rumours that by 2021, developers would need to make just one app or a "single binary" and it would work on iPhones, iPads and Macs. It would create a unified app experience across various devices.

Combine this with rumours that Apple wants its own A-series chips that it uses on iPhones and iPads to power MacBooks next. This would create a unified hardware experience. What would remain would be to combine macOS and iOS, which share a lot of similarities already, in terms of several UI elements, native apps, similar languages and frameworks.

By combining the best of all these devices, Apple could come up with THE perfect touchscreen device that is easy to use, versatile and powerful so users could have only device for any needs.

If they combine all with one OS then it would become more user friendly.

I think so too!

A world where all three are combined would be a better one for Apple users everywhere. Let's hope they can roll a prototype out in the next few years to have a better working OS.

Yeah, I think everyone and their grandma would get one if they make something like that.
