What If We Could Predict Death?

I think it is safe to say that no person would willingly like to die. The self preservation is something that is hard coded into us by evolution and therefore at our core, we are still survivors.

As such, if there was a way we could predict death, wouldn’t that be just lovely? We could prevent and prepare ourselves and this could help to avoid the impending death. It sure sounds like either a fantasy, that we can only witness in the magical world of the likes of Harry Potter or science fiction.

Sure, we cannot predict events like car accidents or other mishaps but we can certainly do something about our health and the plethora of data that can be generated from the various bodily systems. All this could be used to predict life expectancy as well as any sudden deterioration in the body that might lead to sudden death.

Well, researchers at a company called ExcelMedical have done just that. They have created an algorithm, that continuously monitors your vitals and predicts any chances of sudden death up to 6 hours in advance!

Predicting Death

The algorithm is named Wave Clinical Platform and has even gotten approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and is mainly for use at hospitals, so that tells you that it is ready for real world use. So, what exactly does it do?

You maybe aware of the different fitness trackers that allow you to monitor the various aspects of your health. Well, this algorithm does just that but it takes it a lot of steps further than that. First off, it monitors the vitals of a patient and analyses the data continuously.

It is smart enough to sense the subtle changes in the vitals that the medical experts may miss. Since it is continuously getting data about the patient, it is able to make predictions about any life threatening event up to six hours in advance. This is enough time for the doctors to take preventive measures.

Since the algorithm works smartly and does the heavy lifting on its own, this frees up the medical staff to conduct other activities. I think this is the first time where a program will directly assist doctors in taking care of the patient.

Longer Life Expectancy For All

This breakthrough is only one among many that will be help us humans live a longer and more quality life. Medical science has already advanced so much in the last century alone that the things that we are capable of today would be considered magic at some point in history.

In the future, we are going to see AI play an active role in assisting doctors with not only directly treating the patient and even cover for them for the most part, but also in broader areas like developing medicines for diseases that are still incurable.

Also, consider things like nanobots that are in active development. One day, we could have a swarm of these swimming inside our bodies, working as a permanent and personal maintenance team, that augments the systems already in place to take care of the body.

I think by 2050, it is my personal belief that we would have easily made living a hundred years, the new normal. And who knows what we can achieve beyond that. Even immortality may be on the table. Only time will tell.

It really excites the techchat team thinking about all the possibilities with merging technology and health. You brought up a great point that we have also considered - which is eventually we will have tiny AI robots in our bodies that will be assisting us with everyday life.

I am sure that while technology continues to progress the life expectancy of humans is only going to get longer. In which case, if Elon doesn't get us to Mars soon than the real estate market will just continue to rise as the demand for homes continues to rise 🚀

Nice article. Life is just gap between the birth and death .

Thank you :)

Yeah, it is an exciting future for sure that we are headed into. Human life expectancy is certain to cross the 100 years mark in just a few decades.

Sorry sir , you no longer meat up to our health police according to this readings . Your FIRED ....... ;-)

LOL!!!!

Perhaps no one would die then. I fear what would happen if the insurance companies got a hold of that. If your algorithm was predicting death soon they might jack up the price what you pay. On the flip side perhaps that could have helped to save my sweetheart Marcia from death. But when you miss someone that much self preservation is not as high of a priority anymore. You just want to be reunited. Thanks for sharing your article.

I don't think the insurance companies would get their hands on such algorithm. I guess there would be some code of conduct like "patient doctor confidentiality" in place to prevent that.

Nice post sir.You always upload importance post thanks for sharing.

Technology is a great invention in the present world.
@Resteem done.

Thank you :)

Was reading about this the other day, just have to see how it's gonna be perceived by the people related to the patient.

Yeah, I am waiting for real world use too.

Really cool post. Well explained so even idiots like me could understand lmao.

haha, I like to keep it simple ;)

Well, this is why we need people like you on this website, I’m speechless bro, keep the good work 💪🏻♥️

I don't get why though hehe

Nice article.. I belev that death and life is in gods hands.. You are right time ll tell about it.. Its interesting to read that swimming n working in our body.. Interesting article.. Thanx for sharing

Thanks for reading :)

You are welcome

The question is, do you really want to get that old? If I could choose I would rather die younger and completly healthy, rather than 100 and 30 years ill and at machines...

That is for each of us to decide I guess. But if tech improves so much, then we won't be ill for the final 30 years.

Nice post @sauravrungta. I also believe that the medical advances will increase our lifespan significantly. 100 year in 2050 isn't far-fetched at all. Once cancer can be dealt with, telomeres repaired, and organs transplanted healthy individuals will see very long lives.

You are absolutely right! Those three things will be huge contributions towards that goal.

Predicting death can have it many advantages and disadvantages, firstly a big advantage is mortality rush, most people get a mortality rush in there 60's (where they realise time is valuable) however living with a mortality rush can make a enjoyable life under stress.

Yeah everything has its advantages and disadvantages I guess.

like the writing very much and I vote. Please do the same

Thanks!

That would be very helpful and can prevent a lot of deaths that happen suddenly.

Yeah, very useful in hospitals.

great post👍

Thanks :)

That is absolutely incredible. The advances in the medical world the last couple years are astounding

Indeed they have been astounding. I only wonder what the next few decades will bring.

You and me both... It can only be absolutely amazing.

Life expectancy is going up all the time. Deaths from cancer and other diseases are plummeting. That's all great but it will present some interesting challenges as people start to live longer and longer lives.

Yeah, longer life will bring problems of its own. Extra strain on resources for example.

You wrote an excellent lines in the ending of only the time will tell. In previous two centuries the people had died due to small diseases which was eredicated today. This was happened only and only by the technology and development of science in the field medical health.
If the growth of technology similar pattern the person will not die soon at its willing of long life may be fulfilled.

yeah, the diseases that were deadly are now normal. So, yeah, with time, today's deadly diseases are bound to be very curable.

If we can predict the death no one walk beyond the money. Thanks for nice post I follow you.

Thanks for reading. :)

Maybe out of the topic, but we often forget that it's not just the duration of our life. May seem like more on the philosophical side, but the life should be large, not long!

And longer lives or predictability of life isn't going to make our life less miserable for sure. Has anyone watched Black Mirror TV series here? If you did, you know what I'm talking about. :)

Yeah, technology can have really undesired effects for sure and I agree that life should be larger than longer, but I think such tech should be there because they save lives, and the people whose family members' lives are saved due to this tech, won't bother about its potential adverse effects.

Death should be unpredictable. Thats the real fun in life, the we don't know whats going to happen next. Otherwise who love the planned things, unplanned this have their own interest happiness and fun.

Spoken like a true traveller :) Yes, unpredictability sure brings a kind of a flare to life.

Predicting death is the next step to simply avoid death.

In the future I think we will have the option to live forever, if we want to.

Yes, I believe that future is the one we are heading.

Now,that we can predict death my friends will be able to say in real "Bhai tu Marne wala h ab"

LOL :D :D

worth sharing. Thanks

Holy smokes, this is like the first step in autonomous medicine

I believe it is too.

Interesting I hope that here we can follow and share information of interest, very good post, congratulations.

Thanks for sharing some interesting post like this. @sauravrungta
Life is pretty random. The only way you can predict your death is if you commit suicide or plan death via euthanasia or have a fatal disease. Even then you can not be 100% certain of death...there are often intervening variables that can affect outcome and therefore it is not an exact science....
Mayur Rajput

True. It is not an exact science at all. But it’s still nice that scientists are working to at least try it out.
