It is quite understandable that people willing to change their mobile phone numbers hesitate to do so because of the troubles it initiates. While they may need to update their new numbers at several places like banks and subscribed sites, they may also need to update their friends and contacts on it. As all this can be tiring, the facility of mobile number portability was introduced in the year 2011. Since then, lakhs of people have made their communication life easier by retaining their existing phone identity without any hassles.
On the other hand, some customers, even in the capital city of Delhi, still hesitate to change their mobile services providers due to the lack of information on mobile number portability. We explain the entire process here to help all such fellows who do not want to continue seeking services from their existing phone and network services providers. Check out the step wise procedure to do this, without losing your current phone number.
How to Move to a New Mobile Service Provider
Step 1: Whether you want to do mobile number portability (MNP) for getting cost-effective unlimited postpaid plans offered by your preferred service provider, you should first compare and analyze its different plans to make the right choice.
Step 2: When you take a decision, you may sign up with either a reliable mediator website or service provider’s website or you may approach the customer care of the service provider you have chosen. At a nominal fee, you can sign up on a trustworthy mediator platform. This will require you to provide your usage details and desired plan. You may also compare plans while signing up and choose an optimized one according to your needs. Whether you want to go for unlimited STD calling plans in Delhi or some other plan, you can do this after selecting the desired service provider. Now, just check the plan details and provide your contact details to complete your online registration. A customer care representative will call you to process your MNP request.

Step 3: You will now need to generate your unique porting code or UPC, as instructed by the calling representative. Usually, you do this by sending an SMS in a specified format. You receive back a message with a UPC valid for 15 days. You need to give this UPC to the customer care representative serving you.
Step 4: You also need to submit some documents, such as identity proof, address proof, photo, etc. (an NOC on the company letterhead for corporate connections), to your previous and new service providers. If you are processing MNP via a mediating website, their representatives may even collect your documents from home to submit on your behalf.
Step 5: Within 5 to 10 days of documents receipt by the service provider, the porting process starts. You get a message about its date and time. You get a new SIM card to add to your phone on the given time and date. Within around four hours of doing that, you will find the new network connection activated, with your previous phone number being the same.
If the mobile number portability process appears too complex to you, follow these steps to port your existing postpaid number to a preferred mobile services provider without wasting any time or efforts.
