BMW Announces Most Advanced Motorcyle Ever

The new motorcycle will be designed in a way that it self balances while you're riding it even when it's off. The flexframe will allow the bike to turn without the joints found on today's motorcycles. The idea is that when a rider turns the handlebar, it adjusts the entire frame to change the direction of the bike; at low speeds only a slight input is required, while at high speeds it needs strong input to change course. This should increase the safety factor of riding a bike so a small twitch at 100 mph isn't going to shoot you in an unexpected new direction.

The BMW bike will also have connected data from its surroundings and intelligent systems working in the background so it knows exactly what lies ahead.

One of the systems is being called a Digital Companion, which offers riding advice and adjustment ideas to optimize the experience. The other is a set of glasses called The Visor, which is a pair of glasses that span the entire field of vision and are controlled by eye movements! The data glasses are actually intended to completely replace your helmet. Relevant information is collected from the environment, which the visor projects directly into the driver's field of vision. If the rider looks straight ahead, no data is displayed, so as not to impinge on the riding experience. Only when action is required – for instance in case of hazards – or if the rider requests information, does the visor become active.

However, BMW isn't the only company working on advancing motorcycles. Unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show, Honda's Riding Assist-e is an all-electric concept motorbike that constantly assesses its position and moves the steering bar to ensure the heavy machine stays upright.
