In October, we learned that the Chinese space station Tiangong-1 (The Heavenly Palace), over which the Middle Kingdom lost control in 2016, began its de-orbiting and will soon fall to Earth.
At that time, the scientists tried to calculate when and where the space system would drop. General analyzes have shown that this will take place between October 2017 and April 2018. The most likely period was the end of the year. Unfortunately, the calculations did not work and the Tiangong-1 station did not burn in the atmosphere, nor did it drop to Earth.
In recent weeks, the Chinese, along with their colleagues from various space agencies, have made further calculations and it turns out that 100-kg Tiangong-1 remains will fall to Earth between March 24 and April 19 this year. However, it is still unclear exactly where it will fall, but it is certain that this will happen between the latitude 43 degrees north and 43 degrees south latitude.
It is also known that it will hit the Earth from 10 to 40 percent weighing 8.5 tons of station. The probability that one of these large pieces will fall on a man or apartment, is 1: 10000. As we can see, the threat does not seem too big.
In the last 50 years of expanding the orbital infrastructure, there was only one case where a man was hit by a falling part of the space installation. It was a US resident, whose arm caught a piece of the crumbling Delta rocket. Although the event looked scary, it suffered only minor injuries and at no time threatened her life.
