The Best Mid-Range Smartphones - My Experience

in technology •  8 years ago

Given that the smartphone industry is developing rapidly, manufacturers of smart devices are constantly trying to outdo themselves which causes the price of old devices to decrease when the company presents a new device and they are becoming mid-range phones. The fact is you don’t need to spend a lot of money to get a top quality smartphone.
Here is the list of top 5 mid-range smartphones from my own experience.

I know that the term "mid-range phone" is pretty subjective and that's why I took the $300 price for the upper limit.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 - 299$

Weight: 176g
Dimensions: 153.5 x 78.6 x 8.5 mm
CPU: Quad-core 2.7 GHz
RAM: 3GB
Storage: 32GB
Battery: 3220mAh
OS: Android 4.4
Screen size: 5.7 inch
Resolution: 1440x2560
Rear camera: 16 MP
Front camera: 3.7 MP

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is working on Snapdragon 805 and 3GB of RAM, with 32GB of memory that can be expanded via memory cards.
This smartphone has Quad HD Super Amoled Display with 515 PPI and impressive rear 16 mps camera and 4K video with optical image stabilization.
One of the things I really like on this phone is metal frame which gives premium look.
For lovers of games and multitasking you will not go wrong with this phone.
Samsung Galaxy Note 4 does not have many flaws, I would mention only the lack of FM radio, a plastic cover and fingerprint sensor integrated into the Home button.
In my opinion, Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is the best mid-range smartphone you can buy at this moment.

Huawei Ascend Mate 7 - 282$

Weight: 185g
Dimensions: 157 x 81 x 7.9 mm
CPU: Quad-core Cortex-A15 & quad-core Cortex-A7 1800/1300 MHz
RAM: 2GB
Storage: 16GB
Battery: 4100mAh
OS: Android 4.4
Screen size: 6.0 inch
Resolution: 1080x1920
Rear camera: 13 MP
Front camera: 5 MP

There are 3 reasons why I would recommend this phone:
• High design quality
• 6 inches screen size
• Battery with 4100 mAh
Excellent build quality is the best thing on Huawei Mate 7 - aluminum body leaves a very good impression. This phone has a very solid camera which looks even better on this screen size. Even though I'm a fan of Samsung’s Amoled screens, screen on this phone is fantastic. It has great battery, under normal use it can last for day and a half, two days. Another good feature of this phone is the quality and volume of sound.
As a downside for the phone I want to mention lack of Home button.

Weight: 129g
Dimensions: 144.6 x 69.2 x 7.3 mm

Screen size: 5.15 inch
Resolution: 1080x1920
Rear camera: 16 MP
Front camera: 4 MP
Xiaomi Mi 5, protected on both sides by glass Gorilla Glass 4, has a premium look.
Xiaomi Mi 5 is the first Xiaomi phone that has a physical Home button below the screen which is a great advantage. Also, on the Home button is located super fast fingerprint sensor.
Thanks to the new chipset Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 Xiaomi Mi 5 works super fast regardless of whether you are using a version that has 3 or 4 GB of RAM.
Xiaomi Mi 5 use MIUI 7 user interface that runs on Android Marshmallow system.

Huawei P9 Lite - 249$

P9 Lite is a very nice and concisely designed phone. The plastic rear part is built from the highest quality plastic which provides excellent grip together with the metal frame. Huawei P9 Lite has excellent camera of 13 MP sensor and optical image stabilization, which gives really good results when shooting video. Front camera should satisfy the tastes of more demanding users.
One of the downsides would be the lack of gorilla glass protection.

OnePlus One - 229$

Weight: 162g
Dimensions: 152.9 x 75.9 x 8.9 mm
CPU: Snapdragon 801 2500 MHz
RAM: 3GB

Battery: 3100mAh

Screen size: 5.5 inch
Resolution: 1080x1920
Rear camera: 13 MP
Front camera: 5 MP

OnePlus One is working on Cyanogen Mod, specific form of Android OS.
At a time when the phone was released, OnePlus One was faster than almost each flagship on the market. Despite that design is created in a completely minimalist mood, OnePlus One looks great.
Compared to Samsung, LG and similar smartphones OnePlus One does not have such a display quality, but on the other hand has a really great camera.
Considering that OnePlus One has been announced as “flagship killer”, I can say that it has justified my expectations.

OnePlus 3T is a beast indeed, but the price is above this mid-range level.

Doesn't really work good with Android Auto though.

I would add Motorola moto G4 for sure! Price around 220€! Great device!

I can totally agree with you! It is a great phone for a small price!

I just got the huawei honor 6x midrange no doubt but works really good.

I read a lot about this phone and got a very good impression. Unfortunately, here in Serbia is really hard to find to buy this phone because it's not produced for our market. Thanks for the comment!

k. not cool though.

Huawei phones are considered good mid-range phones. But I've heard news that Huawei wanted to change their focus into more High-range phones :( .
