When The Algorithm Becomes Wise

in technology •  7 years ago  (edited)

Quick-powered computers have launched a revolution in artificial intelligence over the past 10 years. Neural networks can today be built with thousands of neurons and deep layers. At the same time, they have gained access to huge amounts of data.

It has provided completely new possibilities for letting computers learn rules and contexts at an unprecedented level. They penetrate data and find relationships that the human brain is unable to overcome. They analyze images of cancer and they win over the world's most talented GO players.

Perspectives are huge. Artificial intelligence is already used today in a wide range of areas like image and speech recognition, new drug development, self-propelled cars, robots, online search engines, stock trading and much more.

But there are also challenges. How much should we trust the systems? Are we prepared to give the software some self-determination, and should the systems be able to make decisions that can ultimately affect life and death? Many researchers see AI as the solution to a large number of human challenges, while others fear it will be our final.

Nice Blog!

This is somewhat related to the field of my endeavor, biomedical engineering. I believe, let them get wise, it has nothing to do with our progress as humans.
