The Future 2 - Virtual Reality

in technology •  7 years ago  (edited)

So, I recently stumbled across this, while I was searching for what I want to do in life.
I went to a training fair in my region and found out about a new course of studies.
It was called Expanded reality, it's about virtual reality, augmented reality and extended reality.

This was when I realized I underestimated Virtual reality.

When I am talking about virtual reality, most of you will think of glasses like this one.

But realistically speaking, how long will it take until we have glasses, that look like normal glasses but give us additional information into our field of view?

My answer to this is, probably less than 5 years.
in 15 years we will have people running around with glasses, that give us additional information about the traffic, the news etc.
Most likely we will even be able to interact with our environment.

Maybe instead of having to buy a train ticket, we will get a pop-up, asking us if we want to buy one.

The technology is almost here and I think there are unlimited possibilities
I think this will become a new medium like smartphones did.
We will have all sorts of apps that are constantly on our point of view. I am thinking of Messages, advertisements, information.

When walking through a city, it will be a lot more fun to discover the cultural aspects of it, because you can change the way we look at things. Maybe we can even reconstruct a picture of how things used to look like.
You will be able to experience Rome in his prime time. Or you will see the destruction of the 2nd World War.
I don't see upper limits to this

When working as an engineer you will build your machines in virtual reality and you will be able to test them, change modes in a moment. You will have a whole new reality you can play around in.

We can mirror mars and construct a test village and test it against all kinds of risks.

We will be able to test anything everywhere.

But there will also be a dark side

Disclaimer: Everybody who wants to see a great tv-show about the dark-sides of technological advancement. Watch Black mirror

Just think of annoying advertisements in your view, what happens if dozens of glasses get hacked, how will we interact with each other if everyone is wearing smart glasses?

If you look at smartphones and at what they changed, they mostly get our attention. When sitting in a train nowadays, everybody is watching something, listening to music, minding their own business. But they are also disconnected with the real world and I believe this will get worse, a lot worse with expanded reality.

Today's question! How is a world like this going to work? With today's currency? I doubt that!!

Remeber to stay positive! Don't look down!

I personally think it would be awesome having smart glasses capable of changing our surroundings. It could make the world seem like a much more colourful place by increasing vibrance of plants so they appear more green ect. Bring on the smart glasses!

I think the capabilities of virtual reality are astounding, however I think its application in everyday life is going to be seriously detrimental.

The great part is though, you can always take the glasses off.

I remember buying one of these and I've lost it around the house somewhere
