5G technology is not going to kill you....or takeover the world....or....

in technology •  6 years ago

This is a subject I am very familiar with. I've been in Telecommunications for the past 20yrs and have watched everything evolve over that period. Let me break down 5G for you.

Frequency

A quick Google search (also training I have been taking at work) will reveal the plans to use the 600MHz to 6GHZ.

Here comes the scary part. The new 5G frquency being used is........(drum roll please).....the old UHF analog TV channels.

OMG we are all going to die!!!

Take a look at this frequency list. Channel 37 to 51 on your old analog TV will be the freq used for the new technology. I deal with this personally everyday while building and testing new 5G sites. The old TV stations have taken this many years to finally get (most) of the spectrum/frequencies cleared.

So it must be the millimeter frequency....right?!?!?!

Millimeter wave spectrum is the band of spectrum between 30 GHz and 300 GHz. So what has that been used for in the past?

There it is folks. Right in the Microwave/Satellite range.

Why aren't we all dead already?

These are not some new crazy frequencies we've never tested. They have been used for many years and different applications.

Someone please explain to me how 5G is going to kill us. I would love to hear your explanation. I did not go into how the antennas are tuned or highest possible power output by the radios....but can if need be. So let's hear it!!!

Proud member of #steemsilvergold! We will make it through 5G!!!!

I haven't had my supper yet, hold this frankfurter as I adjust the rabbit ear antenna.

Hmmmm, just the old UHF frequencies, eh? 20 years in the telecommunications industry? UFO's spotted on your smoke breaks...

And you look like this!

Yeah, everything is fine @vgholdingsllc, everything is juuuuuust fine.

😆😅😂🤣. They just wanted to learn about 5G too.

Interesting read.

Thanks @oldtimer! It's a cool technology that is going to change everything.

Of course, it will.
When the color TV came they said that soon we all gonna be blind and brain tumors should hanging out of our ears by now from the excessive use of smartphones too.

I'm sure all the people who say these things will be utilizing the technology as soon as it comes out. Then they can talk about how bad 5G is over the 5G network. LOL :)

True.
Like guys in gas guzzlers talking about Tesla and clean energy, hehe.

Yes exactly!!!!

VG i am tge most un technogolical person ever. Its all Greek to me.

Just know that it won't kill you. LOL

Good to get this info from someone that works with this technology.

If you ever have any questions about it, let me know @j85063.

Thanks and one question I have heard they will need to put antennas every couple of house's or so along suburban streets. Is that needed or will they have similar amount of antenna towers to what we use now?

Posted using Partiko Android

They will be using the existing towers for now. In cities they will use DAS (distributed antenna systems) to help with congestion. They actually already use them on the 4G network. A DAS system has a main hub with small antennas every few blocks. They are mostly mounted on telephone poles. Take a look when you are around a big city and you will see them.

Okay thanks so not as many antenna needed as some think then. Thank you.

It actually should use less towers as the frequency travels farther and has better in building penetration. The DAS systems are usually used because of building restrictions, sport/concert venues that don't need 365 day coverage and sometimes for in building solutions.

That is very different from what I have heard. Sounds much better.
