Now, this may be a very unpopular piece of advice, I’m sure many of you out there are tossing your eyes and ready to roll off the tongue a thousand and one reasons why this is simply not as easy as it sounds. After all, you need it for your email, banking, camera, google, maps and a tonne of other things. It saves you time, it saves you money, it keeps you in contact with friends and family – you cannot possibly do without it, right?
GATEWAY TO YOUR ENSLAVEMENT
The smartphone is as the subheading suggests, the gateway to your enslavement. The smart grid is being built up around us as we speak, smart cities are being developed and trialled around the World, the internet of things or IOT as it is often referred to is waiting in line for the 5G rollout across the World to be finished – when this happens, welcome to enslavement.
However, the smartphone is the key to the smart grid, it is what connects you to the ‘Internet of Things’. It can track your location, your shopping habits, your heartbeat, your daily routine, your human interactions, your browsing habits, your sexual appetites, your secret addictions, your political views, your likes and dislikes, your music taste, your food taste – it quite literally knows more about you than you probably do.
Now, you may be thinking “So what, I have nothing to hide”, well that may be so, but that won’t stop this technology from deciding what you can and cannot have, it won’t stop it from dipping into your bank when you get a parking ticket or jaywalk. It also won’t stop international travel restrictions being placed upon you due to something which you posted on social media 5 years ago. The system is logic based. using variables determined by the Government of where you reside.
The following video from Amazing Polly looks at just this and how already all the above-mentioned actions are already being applied to the people of China.
There are other factors to consider though, its not all about taking the power away from ‘them’, getting your smartphone out of your life will also benefit you in many other ways. For one you’ll have more time, this is guaranteed. While many of us believe that the smartphone saves us time due to having literally everything at your fingertips, you’d be wrong. We waste far more time than we save, this is almost true for everyone with a smartphone.
We are a generation of addicts, dopamine addicts looking for the next hit, the next feel good moment, we are searching for instant gratification and getting just that. Companies are spending billions of dollars on finding more effective ways to keep you tapping away at the phone, and it works.
A COMPROMISE
I’d be the first to agree that a smartphone does have some undeniable convenient use cases, however, in most cases, it is nothing that couldn’t be done with a laptop. Yes, it may take a few minutes more, particularly if you need to send a photo or something – but even then, most cameras can easily connect to your laptop and you can send them within minutes.
But I understand, its hard to let go, you maybe sceptical about being able to operate as efficiently as you once did without your smartphone. So, why not begin leaving your smartphone off when at home, after all do you really need it at home, wouldn’t your time be better spent either spending time with your family or sitting down and working with a larger screen and bigger keyboard?
If your on a business trip by all means take your smartphone, though why no keep it off and use it when needed. Phone calls work perfectly well through a traditional mobile phone.
Try it out, you might just be surprised!
We’ll leave you with a great podcast from Max Igan who gets into this trap we are heading for, this smart world we appear to be building for ourselves, please let me know what your thoughts are on this in the comments below:
