Apple responded to user accusations of understating the speed of older iPhone models. The company admitted that it intentionally lowers the clock speed of processors, explaining this by the nature of lithium-ion batteries.

The company noted that Apple is striving to provide users with "the best experience", which includes high performance and a long life of smartphones. In the future, this function will be released for other devices, added to Apple.

TechCrunch's chief editor Matthew Panzarino believes that Apple is trying to maintain the economic balance: if in advance to warn the user about the processor clock speed reduction and not give enough explanations for this decision, he can prematurely replace the battery or phone that do not need replacement.

Panzarino noted that in most cases, users may not notice a decrease in processor performance, since it is used at full capacity only when serious computing resources are needed. For example, it can be 3D applications or games.

Reddit users raised the problem of slowing down old iPhone models in early December. They found out that after replacing the battery old devices start to work faster. After the tests, users came to the conclusion that Apple deliberately understates the speed of the old devices.
