Teen curfew is an debate between parents and kids throughout the nation. It is a time period where you can be outside of your house to when you should be back home. The curfew for sixteen and seventeen year old is midnight, for fourteen and fifteen year olds is eleven o’clock, and for thirteen year olds and younger is ten o’clock by law. According to your parents it could be earlier and or even a little later if your parents are okay with it, but many parents aren’t. A lot of kids do not follow these rules and many seem to rebel against parents wishes. In my opinion I believe teen curfew is a good thing to have throughout the nation which can keep kids out of trouble by the law.
I think teen curfew is a good thing because for one many kids seem to think it’s okay to go partying and think that they won’t get caught, which for many children that isn’t the case at all. The curfew is there to protect the kids from adolescence as in rebelling against what they know is right and what they were taught throughout their childhood. The main reason for the curfew to increase when you get older is, because when your older you are expected to be more mature, to know right from wrong, and to set a good role model for other people who may be older than you or younger than you. “Parents impose curfews to protect their teens, and teens often feel this is an unfair limitation placed upon them” (Deana Case). Deana Case is trying to put out there that even though the children may think curfews are unfair and just plain stupid you should still follow them, because your parents do care about what your doing and when you will be home.
Another reason why teen curfew is a good thing is that it provides safety as many parents know that during late at night the roads becomes more unsafe than it does during the curfew time limit. Most kids feel as if their parents don’t trust them when they set a curfew for them to be home, but that isn’t the case. They set a curfew because they care about their kids and want them to be safe. “Often, it is not the behavior of the teenager that is of concern to a parent, but the behavior of other people and how it will impact them. For example, driving home at 11pm is usually much safer than driving home at 2am when the bars have closed and the instance of people driving under the influence increases. Drunk drivers create a life-threatening hazard as they try to make their way home. A curfew is also a way for a teen to gracefully get out of an unsafe or unpleasant situation” (Deana Case). In the end parents believe that it’s ok to be home earlier because it can get you out of many bad situations you rather not be in and once your older and understand it more you will be thanking them for making sure you was always okay and safe.
In conclusion, teen curfew isn't a bad thing and you should just accept that they are just wanting the best from you and to be able to know that you will make good decisions no matter what. Maybe right now you are upset about the curfew, but in the end you may be thanking them for being strict about it.Parents know best and it's okay as a teenager to admit you was wrong and your parents was right.
