Teenager Fatally Shoots Mother After Disagreement Over Puppy

19-year-old Andrew Willson fatally shot his mother after a dispute following living arrangements for a puppy that Andrew had brought home with him.

The two discussed the puppy that Andrew had brought home and his mother, 51-year-old Lisa Marie Willson, told him that he would need to keep the puppy at his father’s house. Andrew then retrieved a rifle from his closet and shot his mother once in the back of the head while she slept.

Andrew called the police at 6:57 a.m. on September 8 to say that he had come home to find that his mother had been murdered. Though, upon further investigation, it was discovered that no one else had been in the home at the time of the murder aside from Andrew and Lisa.

According to the Lansing State Journal, Detective Charles Buckland testified in court that Andrew disclosed how he grabbed the rifle from his closet after the dispute with his mother and then proceeded to shoot her as she slept. He added that Andrew told police how he drove around for a while before discarding the weapon on the road, where it was soon discovered. When police found the weapon, it was still loaded.

As reported by People, Buckland added in court, “[Willson] walked in, stood at the side of her bed — [he] said that his mother was lying on her right side, so he was facing her back.”

Buckland added, “He said he aimed his rifle at the back of her head; said he didn’t look down at the sight, he just moved the barrel so it was positioned at the back of her head, and he pulled the trigger.”

Willson’s preliminary hearing is reported to be held on September 28 and he is currently being held in jail without the opportunity for bail.
