Get Off My Phone, You Sneaky Scumbags!

in telemarketer •  7 years ago

Does this ever happen to you? Your phone rings; the ID comes up as "Private Caller, Private Number." You think it's one of your privacy skittish friends so you answer. And it's a frakking #telemarketer! Don't you hate it when that happens?

When i get calls from telemarketers and i block their numbers and they still find a way to call... they can't be stopped.

I think they might be spreading through a similar transmission system as a virus...

Man, we need a segment "get off my feed scumbags!" I think it could be hilarious. Sadly most don't get my dry humor and I think I would be flagged into the ground for doing it...

I do love viewing telemarketer are a prickly cactus though! I was hoping one would call me today so I could discuss some life "things" and remind them to never call my number again. Alas, they have somehow been alerted today was not a good day to call me.

Oh, I dunno... I think people might actually appreciate that, around here. There are a lot of folks who appreciate quality around here, and who are sick and tired of the spam.

Depending on my mood, I often just waste a lot of their time. And put on my thickest Danish accent and pretend I barely understand English...

I get them all the time. I like to play pranks on them. A couple of days ago an energy company rang and even after i had explained to him that i lived in a mud hut in outer mongolia he still persited to try and sell me electricity. I dont know what planet some people are on

Yeah, most of the time they seem to completely lack both imagination AND brains. And as soon as you go "off script" with them, things quickly become quite surreal.

We used to get calls about whatever charity event the police were funding that year. One year my favorite man and I decided that we were being nickle and dimed straight into the poor house. We decided that we wouldn't give to any charity which didn't send us an 'opportunity' in the mail so that we could have time to compare all the offers and decide which one(s) we really wanted to give our money to.

We got the annual call from the call service that the police used and when I insisted on exercising our new plan the caller royally reamed me out. I never gave to them again. There are too many charities who do very good work to be concerned with one I'm annoyed with.

My man however, likes to do a little trolling. He figures that callers came to him, he didn't approach them.

Anyway, this makes me feel a little old. I remember the days when call centers weren't allowed to call mobile phones. Those were the good old days!

Don't you have a kind of 'Don't Call Me'-register? Don't know if that exists in all countries (but it should!)
Unfortunately it doesn't always work....

We do have a "do not call" register, but not everybody pays attention... and some companies farm out jobs to individual contractors who are not bound by a restriction against the company.

I’m on one but they are only fined I think 1k-2k if it can be proven for advertising to that number. Most times they are using a stolen/fake/spoofed number and are not caught. Not to mention the court costs involved make it not worth most peoples times. So they tend to get away with it.

Otherwise, if they do get fined say 100k they just declare bankruptcy and administrable dissolve that company and form another one to do it all over again.

I truly do! On the other hand I used to be one myself for two months (worst job ever, but it is good money and quite normal in Denmark), so I am trying to be nice to them when they call!

I can't even imagine doing that job... having so much negative energy coming back towards you. I try to be nice, too... but if they refuse to listen, I just hang up.

It's pretty tough! But there are actually some people who are nice on the phone! I was "lucky" that my job didn't involve selling anything but I just had to book meetings for an insurance company and they were free for the costumers, so it could've been worse. I can promise you though, that I will never go back to that field again ;-)

I hate it so much that I don't answer the phone at all unless I recognize the number.

I’ve used that excess before when I have not wanted to talk with someone. Sorry I thought a telemarket was calling back again today so I didn't see who was calling me.

I'm getting pretty close to that, as well. Just have to train a few more people that if they have caller ID blocked they HAVE to leave a message if they want to talk to me.

My take on the just and deserved fate of all unsolicited marketeers in all forms (and their families, and their pets, )

Funny! Back when there were door-to-door salespeople, I wanted to install a small screen by the doorbell that would play a short film clip called "what happened to the last salesperson" showing them getting skewered and then blown up... triggered by a motion detector.

Laziness got the better of me...

Stay lazy - and get a Rottweiler - they don't mind doing the running, in the slightest!

We had a big black great Dane when I was a kid. The hallway went straight from the back of the house to the front door which was all made up of small square windows. There were a couple times that the dog was charging down the wood floors of the hallway and couldn't stop in time. There was always a very quick retreat when her nose punched through the glass!

I lived on a farm, quite remote, so we always had one or two big dogs with a bad attitude concerning strangers.

I used to play with them all the time -Big softies - if they were not chewing off gypsies hands when they tried to come and steal things..

There should be laws stating that their numbers should always be listed.
I hate that. Especially when you answer and say hello 5 times before anyone picks up on the other end.

Not only that... you answer "hello" five times... and then your get a recorded message that says "all our operators are currently busy! Please hold for this important message!"

AS IF!

Yes, and I’ve been getting more as of late. In fact recently I answered the phone and it was a guy pretending to be from the IRS. Totally fake!

I have had variations of that IRS one. They even leave a message "The IRS has initiated a lawsuit against you. To avoid further proceedings, please call this number at once!"

The IRS, my arse....

lol

Mostly happens when I'm expecting an important phone call... fucking annoying lol

Yeah, I don't like it when they come in and take over the line with their messages. And it is just a recording.

Absolutely! and they don't give up either!

Yeah, they get very pesky and persistent... I usually tell them there is someone at the front door, and then just leave the phone till they hang up.

I was getting phone calls from a number one digit different than my own. So, if my number is 561-275-5251; the call was coming from 562-275-5251! It was creepy indeed!

I always see when it is a telemarketer and I don't reply at all!

I only pick up the call if I know the number, or if it's saved on my phone. I hate those calls, always calling at a bad time to.
