Anxiously Awaiting New Season Of "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel"

p16169314_b_v8_aa.jpgOne of the things I always loved about a Woody Allen movie was the intelligent writing style, which was punctuated by subtle humor. One day, I happened to walk into the TV room and came upon my significant other watching what appeared to be an interesting program on Amazon Prime. While I had some projects that I wanted to get done, this show, "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel," kept me glued to the screen. While this show has nothing to do with the aforementioned Woody Allen, the humor and dialogue reminded me of some of Allen's funniest moments.

Needless to say, I ended up binge-watching the first two seasons and is currently awaiting the announce date of Season 3. The show centers around Miriam Maisel's, wonderfully played by Rachel Brosnahan, secret stand-up career. Her Jewish family doesn't understand her non-traditional way of living. We are talking the 1950s here! Besides, her husband already tried stand-up as a possible career path and failed. One of the most hilarious moments was when her husband fooled around with his secretary, leading Miriam to get drunk and return to the club where her husband usually performed his act. Getting up on stage, she ranted about her husband's indiscretions and the crowd fell in love with her. She did end up getting arrested because of her performance, which I won't spoil with the details here for those planning to see it.

Also starring in the show is Alex Borstein, Michael Zegen, Marin Hinkle, Tony Shalhoub and Kevin Pollak. Luke Kirby appears in the series as Lenny Bruce. Created by Amy Sherman-Palladino, the series has taken home quite a few awards spanning the Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild and the Emmys. My guess is that there will be plenty more awards to come! Mrs. Maisel is a great commentary on the life of a Jewish family in the 1950s living and working in New York City, and the blood, sweat and tears required to handle the profession of a stand-up comic.
