Think about the television shows you watched as a kid and compare them to those you watch today. What made a good show then and what makes a good show now? Has the criteria for a good show changed?
To be honest, the shows that I watched as a kid include cartoon animations, superhero shows, and Disney shows. The reason why those show appealed to me was due to the fact that I loved to look up to the superheroes such as Batman, Superman, Ironman, Spiderman, etc. The action was great, and I would sometimes even imagine being in their shoes with their powers. These were all exciting shows to me as the graphics and visuals were entertaining and realistic during that time. Today, some of those criteria for me have changed, but the majority remains. I am still interested in superhero shows, but I also focus more on the storyline and the realism of the action. The special effects must look realistic and not cheap. I like to also watch more detailed shows and sometimes even more realistic including violence.
Has the quality of shows changed from when you were a kid to now when there are many more to choose from? Or, has the quality deteriorated? Why or why not?
The qualities of shows I believe have become more sophisticated due to the budget and technology. There is more diversity in cast, and more talent is being discovered. Some of these shows really showcase people’s talents and strengths. Shows such as The Voice, American Idol, World of Dance, etc. are new concepts in this decade which was never done before. Because our world and society is becoming more evolved, I believe this directly correlates to show qualities.
If you could create a new television or video program or revamp an existing show, explain what type of new television or video program you would create or revamp and what would you change and why?
In today’s time, I think the television is becoming outdated and shows are being watched more online than through television networks. If I were to create a show, first of all, I would launch it through a streaming platform such as Netflix or Amazon. The type of show that I would create would be a competition of some sort, either in video games or cooking. I feel like people today like to watch competition shows and can relate more to them. Dramas are also very popular, but choosing a story line that people will enjoy may prove to be difficult.
