Temu - tremendous success in Korea and Japan

In Japan, where online shopping is not preferred, the number of monthly users has increased by 2.2 million since Temu launched its service in July 2023.

The primary reason Japanese people prefer Temu is its pricing. With wages failing to keep pace with the rising cost of living, Japanese consumers gravitate towards budget-friendly brands.

The second reason lies in logistics. In Japan, labor costs associated with logistics are on the rise due to an aging population. Temu addresses this by offering free shipping, swift resolution of shipping issues, and hassle-free returns within 90 days.

Meanwhile, just two months after its entry into Japan, Temu expanded into Korea and is achieving promising results.

The rationale behind Temu's focus on Korea and Japan, both possessing significant e-commerce market potential, stems not only from their market size but also from the intense competition. Success in these two countries will serve as a stepping stone for future endeavors in Southeast Asia and other emerging markets.
