TENACITY
PLEASE READ AND BE INSTRUCTED UNTO WISDOM
Prior to my sojourn in Lagos, I heard many stories about the city. Some said it is rowdy, hostile, others said every body minds their businesses, persistent traffic jam and thieves that can steal your money even 3km away from you. Well, I wouldn't say all of the stories I heard about the city were true but the stories gave an insight of the life and challenges of an average Lagosian. These average Lagosian I am talking about is not all those people that live in more serene and decent locations in the city like Banana and Victoria Islands, Lekki etc. before somebody will come and tell me to go and sleep that I don't know what I'm "torabout".
In all of the short journeys I made within the city, a particular event was recurring. No matter how I tried to be attentive, I just don't seem to hear my intended bus stop. Me, I didn't know what was wrong with these conductors that they couldn't open their mouths to call these bus stops gently and properly. I will walk up gently to the conductor after the young man has rapped the destinations of the bus and ask gently "chairman you go reach Onipanu bus stop" or any other destination I had in mind. "Enter, madam shift for am. I being don call that bus stop oga", the conductor will say with the other passengers guessing I'm new in Lagos. I didn't care though, all that mattered to me was getting to my destination.
So I would have stayed at that bus stop waiting for hours for a bus heading to my destination when one is right there in front of me calling me to make progress. You see, that is how many have been kept in a position for ages without reasonable progress because they expected life to speak the language they understand, present opportunities to them the way they read it in fictional novels or arrange one rich lady some where that will stop in a jeep and beckon on them to come in. Then the lady starts paying their bills and so on. The same story Ransom Noah, Nonso Diobi et al., acted in Nollywood. "No wake up from your sleep, yeh?" You try!
Many ladies are actually hoping something like this happens to them too. So who will answer the prayers of the other? Life is not a fairy tale. Search, work, search, work, search until you find a way. If it takes 1,2,5 or more years, keep on doing the right thing. That is the way forward. If your present method is not working, try a new model and if necessary more models. One will work. Don't sit there waiting for things to just work perfectly like that. Just make sure in all you do, you don't defy the laws of the land and your faith. With God applying the right principles can take you to enviable heights
