Epic Sunset Reflection in the Black Hills, South Dakota
Canon Rebel T3i, 10-24mm, 1/40sec, f/9, ISO 100 [4968x3312 ]
I flew back to MN for the weekend to celebrate the holidays with my family. We started celebrating the holidays in January about 10 years or so ago because it just worked better. We are all spread out and flights to MN in Jan are quite a bit cheaper. (I paid 200 for a direct flight from SFO) Also this way people can spend the real Christmas with in-laws and everyone stays happy. Anyway, I don’t have much time today or tomorrow, so I am just going to make quick reflection posts for these days.
This photo is a sunset I witnessed in the Black Hills of South Dakota. This small body of water has no name, its really just a drainage pong along the side of the highway. I was headed east into the Black Hills when I noticed the epic cloud burn in my review mirror. I pulled off the highway as soon as I could and was greeted with this small but perfectly still body of water. In any other conditions this drainage pond would not be worthy of a photo, but when a sky like this forms to reflect, any small body of water can become magical.
This shot is a 3 exposure panorama stitched and then cropped at the standard 2x3 photo ratio.

Awesome photo man! Sometimes the best photos are the unplanned, impromptu ones at the side of the road. I have so many of these kinds of photos. Great idea with your family by the way holding the holidays in January. Must be so much less stressful with the travelling. Thanks for sharing!
