Lost in my mid twenties an elderly man of unusual conversation told me of 3 men near present. We had exchanged books previously and our past discussions had always sparked my curiosity, with talk of past life, astrology and the distant mysteries of the past. Ralph Abraham, Terence McKenna and Rupert Sheldrake.
I became enthralled in these men's musings, there thoughts and conversations held my attention with a passion for truth I had not found in my schooling years or yet in this short existence. One held my attention more than the others .
With an illustrious voice and a unique mind this mans thinking enticed me into a quest of unimaginable beauty and terrific wonder.
Terence spoke of a world beyond this one, within this one. Accessed through the consumption of plant based substances of shamanic use for millennia. The most powerful of these being DMT.
I went to an all boys catholic school. Like many this school put sport first, resulting in a testosterone driven culture where little schooling was achieved. Fortunately I had a love for books and would find myself in my college years stoned in the library with my head in a history book. With the provided history curriculum surrounding a one-sided view of the past 100 years of war my imagination wandered much further back. Pondering on obsequies and synchronicities taught as coincidence.
University was much the same and I left to work after 6 months.
Legal reasons steered me away for cannabis when I was 19 never being a big drinker I was an alcoholic within 6 months within 2 years I was consuming 34 drinks an evening (scotch straight) working 40 to 60 hours weeks.
experimenting with other illegal substances on the way.
With the internet in its adolescent stages I now consumed lecture after audio book daily.
Soon after being introduced to Terence without cause and reason I woke up one morning feeling typically horrid and never had another drink.
I Used No2 and cannabis to relive cravings . Occasionally finding mushrooms or LSD for deeper thoughts and what I now understand to murder my ego. DMT was impossible to find but I had decided this quest sounded too unusual to pass up and I would not be disappointed. I read and listened to all I could find anything that sparked my interest. With my body now 12 months free from alcohol life looked different, and society disgusted me.
And I Found It.
Finally.
Or It Found Me.
Or It was waiting until I was ready.
Dimethyltryptamine.
I do not know why this is a great secret, for its strange to me this experience isn't embraced for what it truly is. Terence McKenna was a great individual of imaginative intellect who will in my mind be immortalized as a great explorer of the true final frontier Conciseness
