ATH = All time high. In reference to a coins price trading at the highest price it has ever been
ATL = All time low. In reference to a coins price trading at the lowest price it has ever been
Arbitrage = Buying a coin on one exchange and selling it on another where the price may be higher
ASIC = a mining rig with an ASIC chip. Think of super computers
Bag Holder = Someone who is holding on to their investment of a coin. Can be due to bullish feelings or because coins value has dropped and they are waiting to sell at a profit
Bear/Bearish = being negative about the market or project
Bitmex = a cryptocurrency exchange to trade with leverage
Bittrex = a cryptocurrency exchange to trade more seniored coins
Blockchain = the technology that makes the cryptocurrency space possible Block Height = the number of total blocks on the blockchain
BTFD = Buy the fucking dip. Slang for telling someone to buy a coin after the price has fallen significantly
Bull/Bullish = being confident about the market or project
Circulating Supply = coins that are actually in the market and available to be traded or are being held by owners, investors, or others
Coin = what is trade on an exchange to support a project. Also called a token
Cold Storage = a wallet that is offline and therefore not susceptible to attack. Also called a soft wallet
Cryptocurrency = name of the community of blockchain projects or also synonymous with a coin
DAPP’s = Decentralized applications. Those that run in an entirely decentralized manner
FA = Functional analysis. Using news and other non-technical information to predict future price action
Fiat = traditional currency like the US Dollar
Flippening = a name for the event in which a cryptocurrency would pass Bitcoin in total market capitalization
FOMO = Fear of missing out. Happens when you feel like you should have gotten in and didn’t
Fork = when a cryptocurrency project splits into two different blockchains
FUD = Fear, uncertainty and doubt
Halving = the act of the reward process for mining proof of work coins is cut in half
HODL = slang for ‘hold’. Also referred to as ‘Hold on for dear life’
Hot Storage = a wallet that is online and therefore more susceptible to attack. Also called a Hard wallet
ICO = Initial Coin Offering. When a new project is raising money prior to making their coins available to the public. Think of IPO’s on the stock market
Limit Order = setting a price at which you want to buy or sell a coin that is different than the current price
Margin Trading = Trading with leverage. Think of trading with loaned money
Market Cap = the total value of a cryptocurrency. Calculated by multiplying current USD price and circulating supply
Moon = Used to reference when there’s a belief a coin will drastically increase in price
Noob = Someone who is new and does not know a lot
PnD = Pump and dump. Happens when whales accumulate coins at low prices, drive the price up artificially, and then sell all at once, which drives the price back down
Rekt = slang for ‘wrecked’
Satoshi = smallest unit of measurement of a Bitcoin. One one-hundred millionth of a Bitcoin
Satoshi Nakamoto = Pseudonym of the creator of Bitcoin. The true identity of the creator has never been revealed
Shill = To promote
Shitcoin = Any coin other than Bitcoin. Also referred to as ‘Altcoins’
Shorting = placing a financial bet that the price will decrease
Smart Contracts = contracts that are self-executing
Strong hands = not selling a coin after strong price action
TA = Technical analysis. Using technical indicators to predict price movement
Weak hands = selling a coin after strong price action
Whale = Someone with a lot of money in cryptocurrency. Think of the 1%’ers
