Termites (also known as white ants) belong to the order Isoptera, are characterized by being social insects and feed on wood and other materials rich in cellulose. Most termites are from tropical or subtropical climates, but a few live in temperate climates.

Because the food they require are cellulose-based products, they can be present inside buildings of any material, such as concrete buildings, masonry or others, deteriorating the places where termites are present and feeding on furniture, books, coatings, garbage, among others.
