Even since when Elon Musk tweeted regarding what's he coming up with a Top Secret Masterplan, I was extremely excited on what's he got in his mind.
Well part of the plan was guessable from the beginning, which is integrating Tesla and Solarcity since Tesla have offered to acquire Solar City.
I like his initial approach of his plan when he starting his car startup. He don't want to risk with anyone's money as he aware there's few successful car startup. In fact I only can remember Tesla. He invested all his money and he had a clear plan on what to do in order to make successful.
- Create a low volume car, which would necessarily be expensive
- Use that money to develop a medium volume car at a lower price
- Use that money to create an affordable, high volume car
And... - Provide solar power. No kidding, this has literally been on our website for 10 years.
Well no one realized the 4th one. That's why he mentioned it's been there on Tesla's site. His investment, his hard work, his passion to bring the change to world paid off with more than 100,000 cars been sold and with pre-orders for Model 3 almost reached 276, 000 units.
Now, he didn't stop there. He let the world know that it's just the first phase of a much grander plan and reveal the second phase of it in Tesla's site, Master Plan, Part Deux.

With Tesla submitted an offer to acquire Solar City, this is something a lot of people expected. It makes sense for Tesla with their gigafactory and the announcement of Powerwall last year, to integrate Solar City and Powerwall together and sell it as a solution. This is not something new. A lot of people been doing it. But the cost of installation and ownership is very high which makes it not affordable to average Joe.
Expand the electric vehicle product line to address all major segments
While Elon successfully produce a electric car, he comes up with plan to produce electric heavy duty trucks and high passenger density urban transport. With the goal of reducing the cost of cargo transport and increasing road safety, Elon plan to unveil their next line of electric vehicle for this segment as soon as next year. With Tesla been forefront of autonomous driving, it's exciting to see how autonomous driving technology changes this segment of vehicle and transportation industry as whole.
Develop a self-driving capability that is 10X safer than manual via massive fleet learning
Massive fleet learning. Cars constantly communicating with each other and with other sensors to learn how to drive and share the information to other cars . Cars will be in-sync with each other speed and breaking pattern and constantly broadcast information with each other to make the ride smooth and safe. This is interesting. I know the technology in it's infancy stage, but with a lot of big players investing on it and Tesla is few years ahead of it's competition, I have feeling we might see this sooner rather than later.
Enable your car to make money for you when you aren't using it
I remember I was listening to one of Tesla's earning call (I did it once), someone ask Elon about working with Uber in deploying autonomous ride sharing and he said he'll think about it. Well he really thought about it and decide to include in his phase 2. On whatever he will acquire Uber to achieve this or work with them, we need to wait and see. This can be extended to cargo transport, delivery services as well.
With Elon coming up with his grander vision or part 2 of his much grander plan, I can't help but to be excited! Sure with introduction of this, people start to worry job loss as most jobs currently being replaced by machines and software. But remember, the jobs that we have now didn't exist 50 years ago. With introduction of new technology, I'm pretty sure we going to create job that currently not exist.
