Tesla Outfitting New Vehicles With WI-FI Hot Spot Chips

Wi-Fi connectivity is a basic of the current digital era of high connectivity. Keeping in mind the same, Tesla has already started the manufacturing of vehicles with Qualcomm Wi-Fi hot spot chips installed in it. In the second quarter of 2016 regardless of thing that they're not turned on yet. The confirmed date of this switching is not yet known, as per Electrek.

Tesla has filed an application with the Federal Communications Commission to use radio frequencies with a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) module earlier this year. SIP modules will have the signal and control multimedia communications sessions over the internet, but not limited to SMS messaging voice and video calls. The SIP module includes a Qualcomm Atheros QCA6234 chip optimized as a Wi-Fi hot spot and a USB/Bluetooth/Wi-Fi hub.

The application states the planning for the introduction of the SIP module in Tesla vehicles in the early phase of the first quarter of the year. Electrek again mentioned about the launch of a new version of the Model S just after a few weeks of the first quarter end date by Tesla. It appears to be likely that the Wi-Fi module introduced Model S and Model XS produced since that time.

The company has not disclosed the hot spot hardware publicly. All previous vehicles by Tesla were sold with an internet data service free for four years, may be chargeable after this period.

Since the initial Model S units were sold in June 2012, the period has already passed now. There is, in this way, no assurance of a declaration date for in-vehicle mobile hotspot service, which Tesla would turn on by means of an OTA (over-the-air) software redesign. This will be an added advantage for the buyers.

After such modifications, the driver will be in more beneficial condition when Tesla will reach at SAE level 4 autonomy, which is the condition where drivers need not drive under restricted driving condition. After that level, the driver and passenger will be equally allowed to use the internet which is similar to the Wi-Fi at home.
