Smartphones are slowly ripping us apart

in test •  9 years ago

I have noticed a significant change in my own behaviour (both in how I work, socialise and learn) in the last few years - and this all came really into focus the last few months after spending 9 months working from home (on a laptop).

That I have been managing our commercial social media too, put me over the top.

While I think that the Internet, computers and even smart phones and social networks are great - we can't ignore that they change how we think and how we behave (just like books and the telegraph did before).

The question is; how to we get the most out of all of this, without losing to much. I am still thinking through all this, but just recognising that something is happening and making small corrective adjustments is already working for me.

I've been reading a great book on the topic (The Shallows, https://www.theguardian.com/books/2010/sep/11/shallows-internet-changing-way-think) - which I highly recommend for a bit of consciousness raising on the issue.

Let's deal with the issue - and try not to throw the baby out with the bath water.
