Well, I assume the lost bitcoins includes Satoshi's Million bitcoin address. To say it's "lost" is debatable though... More like "dormant".

Regardless, Satoshi himself said that lost bitcoins only do the Bitcoin economy a service by making the remaining bitcoins more valuable.
