A little tribute to the late King of Thailand

I just thought that I should write something...

No, I am not Thai.

I am not even super savvy on politics, world events or current events in my own country.

I am just a dude who frequented Thailand. I had a girlfriend from there. I have many Thai friends there now, many of whom I keep in contact with regularly through social media apps.

I've honestly gone there so often that I'd like to consider myself more than a tourist, as I've written in my deep travel piece here

With that said, I sort of feel the sadness Thai people are feeling now.

Surfing through Instagram tonight, literally all Thai accounts are putting up pictures of the late King.

I too felt the need to text my friends over there to ask how they were feeling, even though I knew they were like me, not super savvy on politics and stuff.

And they're all feeling the loss.

I saw how much they loved their king.

Watch a movie over there, and everyone would have to stand up to watch a little video of him before the actual movie starts.

I just think that Thai people are really nice people. I attribute that to three things: Buddhism, poor upbringing in which most people have to hustle hard and their king being an inspiring figure for them.

For whatever stigmas and rules I face here, I find that they don't apply to the people in Thailand.

Be it about work, career, money, love or family, they just seem to circumvent traditional rules.

And... they're happy. Really happy, and really nice.

I don't know what is it exactly the king did for them. From what I've read, it's all good.

Thank you for for being an inspiration anyway, or at least something to talk about.

From this guy who's not even Thai or savvy on politics.

Peace,

Alden

Reborn again next life, I will still be his population

Yeah I heard the news myself a little while ago from one of my Thai sisters. I have spent 71 days in Thailand over 4 trips. I was there when the King turned 80. I have my yellow shirt. Even though I am American he was my King too! He will deeply be missed. He was so so loved.

my condolences to the Thai people, excellent tribute congratulations thank you for sharing the post
