I mentioned discovering Steve's bar in an earlier blog about an SUP delivery and paddle advanture in Thailand. Shrouded in plants, Steve's place is easy to drive past, and I'd never find it without google maps.
As we head inside you start to see a great appreciation for natural materials, all of the trees used to make this furniture have a story and a local history. Most come from an area that was flooded to make a damn, or are from the original wooden house that used to be on this plot.
Steve was a firefighter in England before he retired here in Thailand, now he paddles daily and makes really cool things. He shaped the edge of this table, can you see influence the ocean has in his work?
These bar stools were lovingly shaped and offer a variety of comfy foot placements for those who do like to stay and put a few away.
Caught it, ate it, replaced its flesh with shells and hung it up, didn't waste much on this one.
This project was to inspire some local kids to do some handwork and learn some skills.
Sea horse or Shell horse, you decide.
Fishing boats use Metal Halide lights, (or similar) at night to attract squid, along with everything else that does not sink, they often wash up on the beach, this one has been turned into a decretive lamp.
This fishing box, is also a seat and a rod and paddle holder, Steve ties it onto his SUP when he wants to cast a line.
These dry brush portraits or lovingly finished, meanwhile Steve is learning how to paint underwater scenes, perhaps we will have to drop in for another visit and check those out.
For now though, lets head to the beach again...
Wow Steve's bar is really beautiful . Using tree as furniture that is awesome. I really love the sea horse it is amazing, the kids that made it are talented. Steve is also talented look at those wonderful paintings. I will love to see his underwater scenes painting when his done. Thanks for sharing this wonderful post
