I try to go to the fruit and vegetable market as much as possible. It is just fantastic that we can count on these places always being fully stocked of locally-grown stuff and it is normally dramatically cheaper than the stuff you would get at a supermarket anyway.
So the first one is dragon-fruit
This one has a really interesting interior and with white fruit filled with tiny edible seeds. While some peopld find it to be a bit tasteless I disagree, it is just the right amount of sweet in my mind and the fact that you don't need to dodge seeds like you would need to in an orange or watermelon is something that appeals to me a lot. I had never seen this fruit until I moved to Thailand.
Next up are tamarinds. I'm not really even sure if this is a fruit but it is really sweet. It has very strong jaw-breaking seeds inside so be careful! They look like cat poop when they are out of the shell and have a very candy almost paste-like quality to them. This has to be bad for a low carb diet and it is often used for a sticky sweet sauce on seafood - which is fantastic.
This is the mystery fruit. My friend was trying to tell me that it was a pumpkin but since it was in the fruit section of the market I don't think that is the case. IF anyone out there has some idea what this is I would like to know. I didn't buy one because the lady was saying that you have to buy a kg if you want any and since i am not interested in owning 2.2 pounds of something when i don't know what it is, I passed.
