Random amazing shrine

One of the things that I truly enjoy about this country (Thailand) is that you can be in the middle of what seems to be nowhere and then all of a sudden there is a magnificent temple or shrine in a very out-of-the-way location. I don't have any idea what the name of this shrine is, or even really know where it was because I was simply out on a bike ride.

So I'm on a bike ride and I get about 15-20 km outside of town and then out in the distance I can see a massive Buddha in the distance. It wasn't difficult to get to it because it was the size of a 4 story building. I was surprised that no one was around either. Perhaps because it was mid-day and was still quite hot.

There are many of these dragon and snake guardians on temples all throughout the country, but this one seemed to be particularly well looked after, especially considering the remote location.

I am not Buddhist, but I do admire the structures and also the peace and tranquility that all of these locations tend to have. I didn't linger for very long because I was sweaty and wearing shorts and I was not sure of the protocol of respect. It was still a great find though and I am happy that I wandered in this direction this particular afternoon.

As always, I left a small donation in one of the nearby donation boxes but even though I have been to a ton of these things I was particularly impressed with how well-maintained the grounds and the statues were. A great find!

i love those long, snake-like banisters that these temples will frequently have. Have you ever been to Doi Suthep in Chiang Mai? Some really long snake stairs there.
