Songkran is the Thai new year celebration, taking place every year from April 13 - 15.
It's one of the most important holidays and celebrations in Thailand, when people spend time with friends and family. It's a time to bless elders and loved ones, eat delicious food, and have the biggest water fight in the world!
I decided to head out on the first day of Songkran 2018 for a Thai street food tour and water fight.
All the food and water fighting is in the video, but here are a few of the highlights of the festivities.
We started in Silom, the major downtown area of Bangkok, where they designated it a walking street and water fight zone.
One of the most popular of all Thai food to eat during Songkran, especially if you're water fighting is "khao kai jeow," a Thai omelet over rice. Simple dish, but so good.
Down a side street, found a guy who was making what he called - "airbag omelets," it was insane how much 1 single egg puffed up in the oil.
If you're outside of your private property anywhere in Thailand during Songkran, you're a free water target!
From Silom, we took a tuk tuk to Khao San Road - the main backpacker area, and know for its lively street party and water festival.
Khao San Road was absolutely packed, like single file to file people, marching, dancing, and dumping buckets of water and squirting water guns.
There was a nice lady selling khanom jeen nam ya, a Thai curry of fish with coconut milk served over rice noodles. This was the best dish of this street food tour and day of Songkran.
It was a great day and celebration in Bangkok. Happy Thai New Year!
