"thanking someone is always nice, but there's more to it than simply saying thank you." How many times have you said to a person, "Thank you for... what?" When they're puzzled and then give you an uncomfortable look, trying to determine what you're talking about.
There are three parts to Saying Thank You Very Much: the First, saying thank you is always right before the action, the Second, saying thank you is always after the action, and the Last, saying thank you is always to show that you appreciate the person who gave you a helping hand. That's it. But, we can expand upon that. We can expand upon the process.
Sometimes the best way to say thank you is to express gratitude, and then express your appreciation. It sounds silly, but it's absolutely true. If you receive something valuable, like a job interview, gift card, or even a copy of a new book, tell the person who gave it to you how grateful you are. And then thank them, again in a way that is sincere. This is much better than saying, "Thank you very much," and then giving the other person a hard time or making them mad.
Another good method for saying thank you is to put the object of gratitude in the past tense, as if it were written in your autograph. For example, if you received a thank you letter from Donald Trump, you could say to him, "I greatly appreciate your gift--you've shown me that you care about me and the people around me." Now that's sincere, is it not?
Of course, there are plenty of others ways to say thank you. But when you want to give somebody a sincere and genuine thank you, this is the way to go. There is a saying, "A little gratitude goes a long way." This holds true.
So, what should you say to someone who has given to you? The best thing you can do is express how much you appreciate the act of gratitude. Say something like," Thank you so much - I really appreciate everything you've done for me. Without you, I wouldn't be where I am right now. Thank you." This is sincere, and it will make the person feel good, and they'll be grateful to you for it.
Another good method for thanking people is to express gratitude verbally, while at the same time saying thank you very much to them. You don't have to put a lot of words in your thank you letter - just a few, or an extra word if you can, will do. But if you really feel like you want to say, "Thank you very much," you can. Just make sure to say it in such a way as if you're actually thankful that they did what they did.
As you can see, saying thank you very much is easier than you might think. The basic rule of thumb is, whatever you sincerely feel like saying, do it. It doesn't matter how you put it there, as long as you feel like saying it. Saying thank you very much is the most important part of receiving something, because it shows that you value someone else's assistance, and that you are grateful for their past help.
You can also get more specific when saying thank you. What if you want to say thank you to someone who helped you fix your car, or fixed something else in your house that you were having problems with? Perhaps you could send them a small note, with your gratitude, describing what you needed done, and how you hope that it will now be fixed. People love to be appreciated, and being appreciated makes them feel good. If you can make them feel good by doing something for them, then they will likely be more open to asking you for help in the future.
Some people might be afraid to ask for help, or to say thank you, simply because they are embarrassed of not being able to do it themselves. It's a shame, because there are many great people out there who would love to receive your sincere thanks. If you know someone that is having trouble making mortgage payments, or paying for high school, college, or college tuition, it's perfectly acceptable to offer to pay for their expenses. Don't think of it as a selfish act. People are grateful to have people that genuinely care about them willing to help. In turn, they will be grateful to you for the help.
Something else that some people might shy away from when saying thank you is expressing appreciation. If you are doing a great job taking care of someone, don't be afraid to express your gratitude. For instance, if you're the baby sitter, and your child is going off to college, don't let the child down by not putting the new crib to use, or giving the parents a tour around the house. This demonstrates your appreciation for letting the person know that they are indeed most important. Saying thank you is a simple gesture that lets people know that you are grateful for all the help they provide. And while it doesn't necessarily need to be monetary, expressing your gratitude is always a good idea, and never goes wrong.
