The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (also known as The Conjuring 3 , titled The Conjuring 3 : The Devil forced me to do it in Latin America and Warren File: Forced by the demon in Spain ) is an American supernatural horror film , directed by Michael Chaves from a script by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick . The film is a sequel to The Conjuring (2013) and The Conjuring 2 (2016), thus being the eighth installment of The Conjuring Universe franchise. Patrick Wilson andVera Farmiga reprise their starring roles as paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren , with James Wan and Peter Safran co-producing the project.
The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It began production on June 3, 2019 and was scheduled to be released in the United States on September 11 , 2020 by Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema , but because of of the COVID-19 pandemic , Warner decided to delay its release date to June 4 , 2021.
Paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren encounter what would become one of the most sensational cases from their files. The fight for the soul of a young boy takes them beyond anything they'd ever seen before, to mark the first time in U.S. history that a murder suspect would claim demonic possession as a defense.

In 2016 , asked about other possible sequels to the universe, James Wan stated: "There could be many more The Conjuring movies because the Warrens have so many stories." Screenwriters Chad and Carey Hayes had also expressed interest in working on a story for another sequel. However, Wan stated that he may not be able to direct the film due to his commitments to other projects. Speaking to Collider, he said, "Assuming we're lucky enough to do a third chapter, there are other filmmakers I'd love to see them continue in the world of The Conjuring ." elevenWan has also pointed out that if a third movie were made, it would ideally take place in the 1980s. He later stated that the sequel could include lycanthropy : "Maybe we can go and do it in the classic style of An American Werewolf in London . [...] The Warrens would put themselves in the context of The Hound of the Baskervilles " . In May 2017 , Safran said that a third party would be unlikely to deal with a "haunted house" case.
In June 2017 , it was announced that a third installment was in development with The Conjuring 2 co-writer David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick hired to write the script. In August 2017 , Wan told Entertainment Weekly that the filmmakers "have been working hard on The Conjuring 3, " and that "we're in the middle of working on the script. We want to make sure this script is really good. So many people who have loved the first two of The Conjuring , I don't want to rush into the third if possible. " By September of the following year, producer Peter Safran stated that the script was nearing completion and that production would begin sometime during 2019 . In May 2019 , it was revealed that James Wan co-wrote the story with David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick.
Premiere
The 8 of December of 2019 , Warner Bros. Pictures unveiled the official logo of the film, along with an exclusive preview of the film at Comic Con Experience 2019 . On October 26, 2020 , Warner Bros. released a video titled " Faith & Fear: The Conjuring Universe Behind the Scenes " showing the first images of this third installment. On April 22, 2021 , the first official trailer for the film was released.
