A Mockingbird Nest
Built into our grape arbor
A promise of hope
I realized a few days ago that, for the first time, a mockingbird pair have claimed our largest grapevine in which to build their nest.
I've been watching their comings and goings with great interest, and I believe a second pair has built a best in our black raspberry bush on the north side of our front porch.
Life finds a way.
A friend today was telling me that he saw some large ravens being chased away by a smaller bird, and I told him that, in all likelihood, that was a mockingbird as well.
Mockingbirds are fearless, when it comes to protecting their nests, and in Florida I watched them chase away not only hawks, but also ospreys and bald eagles.
One osprey, in particular, kept looking back as if to say, "Okay, okay, I'm going!"
The nest actually has three eggs, though only two show in the photos, so let's hope they all hatch and thrive.
Sorry for the sideways photo, but I'll correct it when I get my laptop back, along with the rest of the formatting.
