Revolver

I started today with 3 goals which I documented in a dbuzz post. The three goals were to increase my calorie deficit, don't overdo it, and to continue grinding. I must have still been sleeping when I posted that third one because it's not really specific enough to be a goal. Anyway, let's look at the first two.

  1. Increase my calorie Deficit. I accomplished this. Today I managed to hold myself to under 1400 calories. A lot of that was possible from having a healthy dinner. We had some delicious chicken kababs. My wife marinaded them for a couple of days, I threw them on the old grill and they turned out amazing. On top of that they're a really good low calorie, low fat option for dinner.

  2. Don't overdo it. Well, I kind of failed at this one. I was supposed to take it easy today and continue to recover from my surgery, bit some things came up and I ended up putting in a full day's work. I really wish I could have stayed home and rested, but it couldn't be helped.

I finished the day with 5359 steps, but I had 40 active minutes and 11 flights of stairs. I also managed to stay under my 1500 calorie goal. That's where the real work and real progress come into play.

A while ago, I was talking with a weightloss doctor about which is more important, exercise or diet. He said it depends on the person but to put it in perspective he asked me a question. "How long does it take you to burn 600 calories?" I said it would usually take me about an hour. He answered "OK. A small milkshake is about 600 calories. What's harder for you, working out for an hour or not drinking a milkshake?" For me it comes down to a question of battling my own will for a minute or two or battling my will for an hour. It's a simple common sense concept, but this conversation has stuck with me ever since.

Continuing with the theme: Each night I post the song that was playing as I ended the workout and use that as the title for the post for that day. Today that song was Revolver by Rage Against The Machine. Rage is always a good choice for working out. This song is filled with energy. I think it's about domestic abuse, but I'm not too sure. Either way, the way Zach De La Rocha yells the chorus always gets me hyped up a bit.

Well, that's it for today. Tomorrow, my goal is to get my steps in but to rest. I also want to aim for about 1500-1600 calories.
