Hey guys where are going? It’s been an hour. It’s the break time not the end …
Unfortunately, it was the end. Ok, this is art you don’t measure it by the kilo and I shouldn’t be disappointed by the small length of the play. To be honest, this was the least of the things that let me down.
It was the Harold Pinter Pinter’s play “Betrayal”. The story is about the love affair between Jerry and Emma. Who are not married to each other but they are married to Robert and Judith.

The play unravels in a reverse chronological order when Emma meats Jerry ( two years after they broke up ) to tell him that her marriage with Robert is over and ends up in some ten years ago when Jerry first hit on Emma on a party in her house, that was invited by his oldest friend and best man, Robert.

It’s all about the lies that we humans tell to each other and how we betray our relationships. Jerry and Emma betrayed their spouses, when they had a seven-year relationship, Emma betrayed Jerry for not letting him know that he told the truth to her husband Robert about them and Robert betrayed Emma, because he was seeing other women as well. Even Judith is implied that she has a special “fan”.

Direction from Odysseas Papailiopoulos was adequate. Katerina Papadaki ( Emma ) was excellent, Pygmalion Daskaridis ( Robert ) was good and George Chrysostomou ( Jerry ) was mediocre. This year I have seen Chrysostomou in another play and I know he is a good actor, so I give him the benefit of a bad day.
That play was so small and we didn’t have the time to fully explore on the characters. It just told the events and we never learnt about the why. Why do they betray each other? What is the reason behind these betrayals? Why Jerry and Emma kept a seven-year relationship? It is not just for fun. And then why they broke up? And since Robert knew about them for a good two years why he acted as if nothing happened? I really wanted to know the motivation of the characters behind all this mess but all I got was plot and storytelling.
Ok , what can you do … When you see a lot of plays sometimes you end up with some not good ones. It’s all right.
That was from me.

I think nothing happened, except for wasted time. But there are more chances that the next trip to the theater will be crowned with success!

I do not even doubt! According to the Law of Life, bad alternates with good. Imagine that everything in our life has suddenly become monotonous. We would just stop evaluating it! And periodic bursts of emotion shock us and evoke a taste for Life!
