The Diary Game | 09/11/20 | Day #36 - On The Go

in thediarygame •  4 years ago

Today was busy, and chaotic in Manizales, Colombia. To recap, last night rioters attacked and threw gas bombs into the CAI, or police outpost - in the Zona Rosa, or el Cable. Basically, this is the fancy part of the city. I had walked home at 8:30 on quiet streets while only 100 yards above me on the main avenue, a rather small group of protesters, maybe 50 people - burned down public property.

As my official stance via my other brand Coffee Axis Travel - I do not support violent forms of protest.

Dear Diary - I had a few errands to run, and I was not going to be pulled off-track by bullies from out-of-town

Wreckage from last nights attack on the Zona Rosa police (CAI) outpost.

Morning passed in a blur of daily devotions, getting ready, and hurrying out the door for a 10:00 meeting with a client. More on that Sunday! I spoiled myself with a piece of chocolate cake and, of course - a cappuccino.

Meeting over, project worked on, and I rushed home to eat and run downtown to do some shopping at the La Galeria. We needed some dry goods, and while I was at it I picked up a few fruits and veggies.

Police prepare to deal with protesters marching down the main avenue. A lawyer was killed in Bogota and became the poster child for violent protests against the police which has resulted in burned outposts all across Colombia.

Shopping finished, I wandered up the avenue to price wheeled toys or bikes for my son. He needs something to play with on our patio. Not quite ready to put him on a bicycle yet. Maybe for his birthday. A scooter would be nice.

My day finished, I headed home with my load, dropped it off, and walked the puppy. All in all, it was a very busy on-the-go sort of day, with some fringe chaos from last nights craziness, and a march that was supposed to happen, but was corralled by the police and swat teams at a park where they could break it up. As far as I know they never made it to Plaza Bolivar. Interestingly, all the Zona Rosa bars/nightclubs have pledged to help rebuild the police outpost which was burned.

These are interesting times...
