Bangladesh in 1971 refers to the events surrounding the Bangladesh Liberation War, which took place from March 26, 1971, to December 16, 1971. The war was fought between the East Pakistan-based forces of the Awami League and West Pakistan, and resulted in the independence of East Pakistan as the People's Republic of Bangladesh.
