The fruit paw-paw as fondly called has as botanical name being Carica papaya(L) and is from the family of Caricaceae. It is a herbaceous plant with dual or self pollinating ability, early bearing, space conserving and is widely cultivate irrespective of its susceptibility to natural diseases.
Carica has about twenty different species and its origin emanates from the tropics of Americas, southern Mexico, etc. As a fruit, it contains enzymes called papain which help in facilitating both food and protein breakdown which is difficult for the body to digest and equally body build up.
Its leaves are use traditionally with ingredients to prepare treatments for typhoid and malaria as well as used to smoke meat and fish. Its peelings can equally be use in composting to hasten the process of decomposition.
However, it also beautifies our natural environments as such it could be cultivated around homes as there are tall as well as dwarf species.
